I saw this live on TV exactly 38 years ago, give or take a few hours. (Posting on July 11, 2024)

This game really reminds me of the song The Dance...the line goes...i could have missed the pain but I would have missed the dance...if Reds fans had only known that night how it would just about 5 years later....

Very rare treat to see the Expos on American broadcast TV, and especially from Olympic Stadium. And given all the terrible pratfalls from labor stoppages to incompetent ownership and being in a smaller market in Montreal, Felipe really put out the best possible job to keep the ballclub competitive. 88 wins could get you a wildcard 50% of the time.

I remember watching this game. Wow .... I was just 16 years old.

I, as a kid, would take the bus to Briggs Stadium and sit in the bleachers in center field. The ticket was .75. I believe the drinks were .25 and so were the peanuts. Frank Lary was called the "Yankee Killer" because of his success against them. Really the good old days. The Tiger broadcasts today are all yacking and nonsensical. Clowns dressed as broadcasters.

Bottom of the 6th, at the 1:05:17 mark, Lou Brock is clearly safe on his attempt to steal second. Bad call, bad break for the Cardinals.

At 1:35, Harry and Vuk start talking about the prospects for Maddux and Moyer, who went on to win more 624 games combined. Never liked the Moyer trade before the 1989 season. A pitcher that learns how to pitch in Wrigley and be effective is a keeper. And at 8:00, Harry and Steve start talking about Grace, Dwight Smith and Doug Decenzo as prospects.

It’s so important that they wear their real true uniforms not the crap they put the players in today

What I can't understand is why the Mets were unable to repeat their performance afterwards. They cam close in 1973 and then nothing until 1986

I watched this game with my Dad as a young kid in Pittsburgh. Steve Blass was awesome that season, then lost the ability to throw strikes not long after. And without ever knowing he did, Mr. Blass saved me from getting arrested 21 years later near Canaan, CT when I was just starting my career in finance.

1968 Year of the Pitcher stats are mind-boggling - 37 pitchers with 10 complete games or more (Marichal, McLain, Gibson had 30, 28, 28 CG's), McLain 31 wins, Gibson 13 shutouts (another 19 had 5 or more SHO's, Cardinals had 30 SHO's as a team), Gibson's 1.12 EAR (next lowest by starter in modern era Justin Verlander with 1.75 in 2022 which is magnificent given changes in MLB rules), 4 pitchers over 300 innings pitched, 52 others over 200 innings pitched, Mike McCormick & Ray Washburn back-to-back no-hitters, Don Drysdale 58 scoreless inning streak

Remember that Spring Training well as a Long Beach native. Games were played at Blair Field right across from Wilson HS where I started that Fall. Only got to one spring training game there as the Cubs played the Angels. Also recall a promo run by our local then McDonald's, located on E. Anaheim St. close to Park Road. My mom took us over there for a promo. Following lunch my brother got autographs of journeyman catcher, Chris Krug, plus the famous Ernie Banks.

I forgot that Rex Barney did the announcements at Camden Yards for several years before he died in 1997. His voice was the sound of Memorial Stadium. Can't forget how he would enunciation each name along with his trademark "your attention please", "give that fan a contract", and of course "thank youuu". His voice used to be as much a part of summer in Baltimore as crab cakes and getting stuck in Ocean City traffic.
