this is so awesome. i tried using vgm2midi on metal slug 3 midnight wanderers and it won't extract neogeo PCMs and those later games are REALLY heavy on the samples was actually surprised how little of it was the FM part

Yeah, I agree, later Neo-Geo games make heavy use of the PCM channels (as a tidbit, only one PCM channel can change it's pitch, all the others have a fixed sample rate and pitch, so yeah, that meant A LOT of melodic samples). As for the FM part, at least for Hiyamuta's songs, it was used for harmony and bass, rarely for melodies (I think one song of Neo Turf Masters uses the FM channels for the lead melody). Glad you liked the midi!

Heck yea dude, my favorite shmup and ost on the cps1. Love how this was made by the street fight 2 guys. BTW I tried your mid file for u.n. sqaudron with my hq sound fonts too, and oil stage1 and air craft carrier boss are insanely amazing sounding with those. Also in our last conversation, I sent you 2 links one for the ost mid for ghouls and ghosts and one of the sc-55 of gradius 2 I ripped from the sharp x68000. You tube may have hid them because they are links and you might have too get in yt studio too okay the post they are in

Ay dude :) i noticed me and you are doing the same thing, you got a year more experience on me though and more about the Roland and i'm more about the Yamaha XG, you even make full albums haha even a lot of professional artists can't figure out what we are doing because they don't understand sound chips, the different midi formats and takes at least 6 months of studying (we have different sounds which is really awesome even subscribed too you). I will do the rest of un squadron but taking advantage of all the cold stages music for the mega man series for the winter season and im in a Mega Man group on FB and they are eating those up :) My whole thing is bringing everything up to XG midi standards (Varranger2 makes changing instruments and effects easy mode, Yamaha SGP2 (S-YXG2006LE) VSTi and the S-YXG50 VSTI help a lot! the only major upgrade i would need now is a TYROS 5 the ultimate XG keyboard BUT HEY ARE STILL 3500$ O_O) and than recording everything in XG, Sound Canvas, MT-32/GS(MUNT) my custom HQ sound fonts, OPL3 (sound blaster pro v2.0,OPN2 (GENESIS/ARADE), YM2151(CPS1) and OPNA (NEO GEO), and some times ill borrow the pcm or q-sound samples. Than i take those recordings into fl studio and create an amalgamation of all those recordings and cutting out what sounds bad and giving volume privileges too what ever sounds best, than after i master them, and those FM layers really give those MIDIS ALOT OF LIFE it's like the midi is the sword and the FM is lightning striking it. here's my version of what you named "Battleship (Boss 5)" it was my first time using my custom HQ sound fonts which sucks cause i have too redo the tracks i made b4 this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJ_LdGudnrBkh9k

Hey there, I'm glad that you liked my arrangements and telling me about your workflow, it's interesting. I just try to make MIDI files to sound good on GM with the often mediocre Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth, and then I spice it up with the Roland Virtual Canvas VSTI, so I often forget about other effects that GS provides... About the soundtracks, yeah, I made this one back in 2021, and come back to it in 2023 to make it more beefier (I added more harmonies and rhythm instruments), I also made another soundtrack that should be public by now :)

@@aplusbsquared i know how you feel in the same boat and Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth makes me mad it cause for 25 years this thing has tricked me into thinking this is how midis are supposed to sound LMAO, i'm lucky enough too have a MU2000EX which does xg level 3 and Thiers no xg level 3 vsti 0_0 ( the S-YXG2006LE vsti is XG lite so its level 3 wihout the effects) SAme with Varranger2 which i can make the effects but not hear them lol so i have to guess and send it too the dang Mu2000EX and hope i get it right and record that way 0_0 if only i had the tyros 5 keyboard... ay i have a gift for you. i recently Beefed up the X68000 ghouls and ghosts sound track and about to do it again with HD sound fonts and ripped the whole games sound canvas midi so im post a media fire link to it for you too mess around with. ghouls and ghosts sound canvas midi www.mediafire.com/file/g2fyza0mj9tmltp/Ghouls_and_ghosts.mid/file and also im redoing the x68000 version of gradius 2 by mixing the mt-32 and sound canvas, plus all kinds of layersi only have the sound canvas because i messed up the mt-32 recording but ill have it tomorrow because thats when im starting the project and ill send it too you gradius 2 sc-55 midi file www.mediafire.com/file/50mh03yf7hbfq07/Gradius2sc55.mid/file
