Pretty sure that europe gave us their gold and when they saw us outspending the Russians during the CW they called our bluff. We then said fuck yall we aint giving any gold back and that was the birth of the federal reserve's fiat cash system.

Reminds me of my seventh grade geography/social studies teacher. If we asked her a question she didn't know the answer to, she would make up an answer on the spot rather than saying "I don't know" or "Let me get back to you" and forget to look it up later. The problem was she would say her made up answers with enough confidence that we would believe her. I didn't figure it out until high school in my world history class when facts started conflicting with what she told us.

This guy really doesn't know what he is taking about. Moving to fiat currency was a horrible choice that lead to the massive inflation we are experiencing now. There are a lot of great people you can read to understand why this guy is full of shit. I suggest starting with Thomas Sowell, and Milton Freeman.

Fiat currency is supposed to be powered by “consumer purchasing power” through living index and such but because the government has control over the currency itself, the government is what can collapse it if the currency is spent and printed uncontrollably

No it was the Eurodollar infrastructure that can create loans in usd outside of USA’s jurisdiction. A bank in Germany can loan a person/corp usd and they could buy US gold for something created out of thin air.

Obesity is a bigger health risk than starvation. It worked. Inflation and deflation is more under control than under the gold standard. You can look at the numbers. Now the dollar value is linked to taxes and thus productivity.

@@AdamDRutledge what's the fix? Print more paper? Lol. How about our debt to China?
@darrelljohnson7832 Жыл бұрын
It kicked the can down the road. Instead of a small portion of the population dying, we’ve decided to run up huge debts that cannot be paid off. 33 trillion deficit. 150 trillion in unfunded liabilities. That is not sustainable. And when this bursts, tens of millions will die. Several orders of magnitude more then what would have died if we had a more metered system.
@darrelljohnson7832 Жыл бұрын
There’s nothing wrong with a house being a dollar. As the worth of currency goes up wages would adjust. You might only make 5 cents a year, but we used to have fractional cents and could again. Almost anything is better then literally giving them a printer and letting them print all they want.
@AdamDRutledge Жыл бұрын
I agree 100%!
@danielmorton9956 Жыл бұрын
Hahaha, no. Deflation crushes economies and is a key part of any depression. Deflation means it is better to not spend money thus reducing the need for jobs etc. The economy stops growing. The world becomes a zero sum game where might makes right. You can't make money without someone losing. The opium wars were caused by English silver standard and trade deficit for tea. The economy began to strain because of the lack of silver.
@whatwhat7119 Жыл бұрын
@@danielmorton9956 at the same time the government being able to magic up money and essentially tax you with inflation makes then unaccountable. I get that the debt isnt that big a deal since theyre basically in debt to themselves and the interest is just them removing money from the market but this is really the first time something like this has happened and all I can see is it going poorly.

The US moved to a fiat currency in 1971. The original form of "credit scores" existed in 1854 - more than a century earlier. Credit and Fiat currency are not linked. You can also still buy a dollar's worth of gold - it's not very much.

@hustla818 Жыл бұрын
It's true we were in the gold standard. But everything he said after that is complete wrong. 1 dollar buying a house is a good thing, it called purchasing power, and it means you have a very strong currency and economy. He also said things could get very expensive, a dollar can buy a house, but that would mean things get cheap. Also gold standard currency is a lot more resistant to inflation, and inflation is bad for the economy and the power of the dollar. It's obviously complicated and I can't explain everything, but this dude has 0 clue. Can't believe he's giving a presentation. Who are the idiots who actually came out to listen to him?
