It's nice to see so many silver tops in such good condition. I only have the 26mm I was lucky to get with my powestar c8, usually they are kept or sold, long gone, rarely included when you buy an old c8. I always preferred celestron scopes but had/have a fetish for the japanese series 4000 meade eyepieces. So I have never collected the silvertop, but the 26 is pretty nice. I keep it in the c8 case, so it only gets used when I use the c8. The powerstar was the first to use a dc drive, and has a handbox which controls the tracking speed, and has the 4 button layout for centering and guiding, and also controls the motorized focus option. I like having focus control on the handbox. Unfortunately it is missing part of the mounting hardware for the dec motor, so i just use the knob on the fork. It also has the byers drive, it just doesn't say so on the base or have that window showing the worm. It has Starbright coatings too I had a choice of an orange one for the same price, but this powerstar was fully loaded, and came with the same tripod that the later nexstar GPS 8 and 11 came with, not as nice as the cpc tripod, but better than the tripod with the low hinged spreaders that it originally came with. That tripod had been used on scopes before the nexstars, much like meade still uses the same basic field tripod they have been using since the 80s, it lasted until about 2004 or 2005 when the cpc came out and the tripod got major improvements. That 45mm silvertop must have a very narrow apparent field, and that 36mm has to be 48deg or less since the 35mm ultima was 49 degrees and was the maximum field.

Super clean, very tasteful mods. Nothing over the top--- you've preserved its elegant looks. Even the rims are on point; it's hard to find aftermarket rims for this car that don't make it look awkward. I have the same car -- same year -- in Bordeaux paint. I love it, it drives so nicely.

Nice classic 8 with a good newer heavy tripod! Technically, it is the 3rd iteration of the Celestron 8. First was the white and blue 8” in the 1960s, then came the orange tube C8 in the 70s, and yours is the Classic 8 from the 80s with the better Byers worm gear drive (the regular classic 8 had spur gears). Ever since 1977 (after looking through an orange tube C8), I’ve wanted one! Eventually I bought an Ultima 8 PEC and have collected just about every Ultima accessory there was. I still use this scope and still love it!!
