I mean waaay back we got Al the Killer without much back story, and I at least thought some random space trucker couldn't pose much of a threat to the chosen one and an actual angel lady with strange skin, and no wings. But in the comic he was also an IRO-bot, however, now that I read that, it reminds me of how young Claudio was at the time. None of that matters unless he wants to matter, I just enjoy the music, and this song is great. You know what's not great? The way the controls panel on the ship jumped up like a thin sheet of hard plastic.

I'm really digging these new singles. I love Andrew's voice. There are sections in these songs that bring me back to old Coheed songs and that's the best thing I can say about any song lol.

It makes sense that Coheed would re release Deranged with the new Joker movie coming out. My guess is that they will be on the soundtrack. The artwork for the Deranged track makes sense if you are a Batman comics fan and remember Batman: Metal, The Bat Who Laughs. Also the Deranged visualizer video is the 1920s silent film The Man Who Laughs, which is where the idea for the Joker came from.

I wasn't super into the second track at first. I think it was Andrew's lower register. But after a while it has really grown on me. They are both great tracks and I'm excited for this version of DGD. Great theory on them easing us Tillian fans in.

I think you nailed it on the intent for these tracks and the approach going forward! Andrew was on a podcast recently talking about the whole thing and mentioned that these songs are more just testing the waters and the band wants to focus more on Jon as a frontman. Sort of like a Secret Band+ kind of situation, as well as leaning into the idea of DGD as a collective where different vocalists can contribute. I'm excited no matter what!

Okay, gonna nerd out a little bit; The Joke released as an EP with a re-recording of Deranged, which was originally an exclusive track on Batman Arkham City. Seems to me like they made the whole EP a tie-in with the character 'Al the Killer' from IKSSE:3. The joker ties in both as the character The Joker, from Batman, and as the personification of Al's humiliation at the hands of the woman he loves (who's name escapes me), and leads to his serial killing. Hence the dream-like murder of The Joker (a woman resembling his lustee), the reality of the bloody knife, followed by the return of The Joker (as his feelings of humiliation). The act of murder being a temporary vent of his feelings, thus his smiling at the photo at the end of the video, with the gradual return to his frustrated face and the reveal that The Joker is still there. But I'm drunk, so what do I know.

Deranged isn't new. It was revisited though. It was a track made for the game Arkham City.

Coheed is easily my favorite band of all time but this song just doesn't work for me. I'm low-key, happy it's not on the next album and is just an unused song from the last one. Also, the second track Deranged is an old song from the Arkham City game soundtrack.

Also agree higher place is the best! I think what happened, Cameron (the drummer) used to write all of their music. I believe he recorded every instrument on the first 2 albums except vocals, wrote all of it, including the discovery apart from Jason and Lee’s solos etc. Since then I think the song writing was more of a collective thing and it definitely lost the magic. Check out Cameron’s solo band Unsolicited, it sounds like a direct continuation of The Discovery and has all those amazing A Higher Place style Melodies

I'm Ukrainian and I've listened to the whole Colors II right before the full scale war has started in my country (all credits go to delivery services as I've ordered this album at summer 2021). I'm a great fan of BTBAM (hope the greatest one in Ukraine because I have CDs and T-shirts from Coma Ecliptic and Automata (both released)), so this particular record has shaken me down to the floor! After two years of full scale war I still recommend this album as a quintessence of metal prog music of all time. BTBAM FOREVER! Thanks for your support of Ukraine! We'll fight the russians until the Victory! They're occupants, so that's the way we deal with them

Yeah Jordan fish is great and ill miss him. But he wasn't the only genius in the band. Oli brought Jordan on board because of olis vision for the band. He found Jordan's band, worship, and he saw the vision then. He got clean and wanted to go a different direction. He leaned to sing because he didn't eant ti just scream anymore. Theres a recent interview with Jordan saying,he did what oli wanted. They would work on a sing for weeks. Then oli would scrap it completely and starte again. Deive Jordan crazy. He said he would just make do. Vut oli is the perfectionist. Maybe thats why he left. Aswell as family commitments. If you look bk oli already brought ALOT of different sounds to their music. There is a hell had already started sounding way different ,and Jordan wasn't in the band then. Yeah he did alot of the mixing, but writing the songs and giving the direction has a big part of it. They were the dream team. Imo. And Jordan didn't do all the mixing either. I loved him in the band, but i think they'll be fine without him also. Oli taught Jordan how to scream and Jordan showed oli alot of the producing. Theres so many interviews of them both saying as much. Look into these interviews. Im not just blowing smoke up oli's ass.

at first i really didnt enjoy this song at all, but its a grower, the more i listen the more i get the subtle moments that make it very good, i listen to a lot of extreme metal that the mix is muddy on purpose so i didnt really notice the mixing till it was pointed out but i enjoy it
