So sad to hear the loss of your goat and friend, Ginny. Goats are such clever animals and have such unique personalities. Art is therapy. If I was well enough I'd start an art therapy group in my local art building for free. Unfortunately its only for the wealthy and theyre not interested in community, even though its supposed to be exactly that. Life sometimes gives you lemons.....but you go and paint them. Im so grateful to learn from other artists and the one thing we all share is loss of some sort or another. Doing art is the best way to disappear from reality for a while or to be mindful. I've always wondered how goats view the world as their corneas are not the same as other species.... Jo.😊

We call that frisket paper “contact paper”. If, before you add the frisket to the page, you rub it against your jeans or sweater, it lowers the tack and prevents it from lifting the paint. Thanks for this video and all the others you so freely share.

Thanks Judy for this information. I’ve been curious about the flat edge brushes you use. The paint seems to move like butter. Can I ask what brand of flat brushes you use? Thanks again.

Great video with valuable information. I love the way you just get right to it, so thank you for that too! I've always thought that oil can be painted over acrylic, but acrylic cannot go over oil, so I've never tried painting over my oil sticks or oil pastels with acrylic. I will give it a try!

This was a very helpful video. Thanks for explaining the different oil sticks, oil pastels, and non smudge colour pencils. A video preparing wood panels, quality canvas and paper before painting would be awesome. I enjoyed the video you did recently on colour values....a hint from Pamela Caughey was to hold up a red piece of perspex which can quickly show areas that get lost in too much of the lighter colours. Look forward to learning about art and how to improve by trying colours you wouldn't usually use and keep pushing it until it feels OK. Jo😊

Hi Judy, I think we get into a mode of rushing, and being out of sync with the rhythm you get when you are engrossed in something. Its a matter of slowing down and being a bit more bold in the choices you make. Its nothing about loosing your mojo. Its just not really being present. Happened to me today. I had a disaster because my head wasn't truly into it. I was distracted by lifes other problems.....health., parents dementia and fear of loneliness. When i went back, I just took my time and let it happen with more confidence and less negative chatter. I loved the end result and your perseverance. Jo.😊

Hi Judy, im experimenting with mark making thanks to being inspired by watching you work on the surfaces of your art. Is there somewhere on your website with a link to your tools that we can purchase somewhere in NZ.? The tool that makes straight lines and the tool that smears paint around are the 2 I'm needing. They definitely make the creative process more fun and exciting. Also the art journal is alot bigger than my small spiral A4. 300gsm. I would love a larger journal without a spiral binding. Any help on this front would be great. And lastly, do you use any liquitex mixers to make your acrylic inks go further or just dilute or use as is? Answers to my many questions would be most helpful. Really enjoying watching the process of adding and taking away and colour blocking and colour combinations. Have already attempted my own stencil making and love it. I haven't got a website for my art but my Facebook is available for you to check out if you have some free time. Jo massey

My sketchbook is A4 Crescent Rendr Bleedproof Sketchbook 180g 21 x 28cm bought from Gordon Harris. Colour Shapers also bought from Gordon Harris. Straight Edge tool bought from Bunnings?? or try a paint shop - Resene?? I don't use liquitex mixers.

What do you use these pages for? Do you create an abstract painting using your collage? I’m confused about the use of collage?
@judywoodsartАй бұрын
These paintings were created in my sketchbook, which I use to play around with ideas. I use collage as the first layer to create edges that will create interesting effects as I layer the paint on top. I also use collage on top of the painting and butting up interesting and contrasting collage papers to create surprises in the composition. Hope that helps explain how I use collage.

interesting and helpful quote I made of note of from this video - the 'golden rule' about making marks and things, keeping light on light and dark on dark, to keep the painting from becoming too busy. I havce never heard of this golden rule but am going to include it in my tool box of art making!
