This is a great information for anyone just getting started on their journey! Another thing I’d add to this is that your approach to BJJ also plays a large role in preventing injury. When I started, I was a bigger guy than most in my gym. Because of that, I would compensate for my lack of skill with strength whenever I was put into a bad position. Because of this, my development not only suffered, but I also CONSTANTLY had nagging injuries (sprains and bruises) between practices. I’d also imagine people didn’t really like rolling with me because I tired myself and likely them out unnecessarily very quickly. If I could start over again and learn to use much less force, but use it in the right places and with the right technique, I think I would’ve been far more successful, and certainly much safer.

Thanks for posting this. It drives me nuts that my belt keeps falling off so I'll definitely use the 2nd one moving forward 👍

Have to try this! So head to underhook side touching the Matt to prevent the choke then go for it?

Head to the matt to allow passage so the shoulders can get to the mat and then the entire back on the mat using the floor to 'peel' the opponent from your back. Remember to move your body upwards (towards and upwards the head) instead of sideways, as it is normally done.
