Based on real life. He returned home for the holidays and went to a local convenience store and met her. They did get some beer and talked for hours. He never released her name since he could tell that her marriage wasn't working out. She didn't say anything since she thought it could cause him problems. The snow really did turn to rain while he was driving home. After Fogelberg died she came out and explained who she was and it was about her and that everything was true, aside from the fact that her husband was a gym teacher, and her eyes were green. Obviously done to protect her identity.

Hard to get through this song…..you all know why. And yet a masterpiece. I would hope I’d have the same kind of encounter but my thoughts unfortunately by my ex(s) wouldn’t give me what was presented in this song lol. Lack of maturity or just mean! I love how it is presented here though. 80s..what a decade for young innocent love. I’ll listen to this till I’m 100 and I’ll still feel my heart break

@JMEAGLE101 This was written and sang for Anastasia his wife I read a comment below saying Dan wouldn't appreciate this. You can't believe everything you hear. I could go into great detail but will not out of respect for both. Dan was an extremely private man and kept his personal life private. I know Dan would greatly appreciate this. Anastasia was Dan's true love and soul mate. Even after they divorced their loved lived on. They were human and both made mistakes as we all do. Make no mistake that as Dan took his last breath, Anastasia was still a part of him. JMEagle you have captured their love in this tribute and know both are proud of you for this.
