Hey Jimi! Great video with some really great insight! Having a business of my own and also being a former retail team leader I find that often times im pouring out into my team and struggle to fill my own "cup". You cant give what you dont have. What suggestions do you have for leaders who are looking to continue growing themselves so that they dont become the ceiling for the rest of the team? What does "higher learning" look like for those who are already leaders?

Hey Kaio! Thanks for your thoughtful comment and for watching the video. I completely understand where you're coming from; it's so important for leaders to keep their own "cup" full to effectively lead their teams. Here are a few suggestions I share with leaders to stay their best and avoid becoming the ceiling for their team: Self-awareness - It's crucial to recognize when you need to tap into your source of inspiration. If you find yourself pouring negativity into your team instead of uplifting them, it's time to find that point of renewal. Consider who or what helps you stay positive-whether it's a speaker, team member, or author. Staying connected to these sources can keep you motivated and energized. Learn to rest - Avoiding burnout is essential. Leaders should set the example by encouraging their teams to take appropriate rest so they can finish strong. If a leader burns out, it can negatively affect the team or signal the need for a leadership change. Rest isn't a luxury; it's a necessity for sustained performance. Continuous learning - Learning from the people you work with is invaluable. It's also important to stay current with leadership trends and knowledge. A couple of books I recommend are "Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter" by Liz Wiseman and "Leading with Purpose: How to Engage, Empower & Encourage Your People to Reach Their Full Potential" by Richard J. Leider. These resources offer great insights into effective leadership and personal growth. I’m also a frequent listener of a Diary of a CEO. Hearing from other leaders is a great way to expand our capacity and knowledge. You were always a great catalyst for creating an environment to support continuous learning! Thanks for the questions and great hearing from you 🍻

Hey, Jimi! Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for creating this video and this channel. I enjoyed watching, hearing what insights you had to offer, and I look forward to tuning into future episodes. I can’t help but to reflect back on when we met 14 years ago- When I started as an overnight seasonal stock clerk at Toys”R”Us/Babies”R”Us (North Polaris Parkway) in Ohio. This was where I got my first real opportunity to enter into a supervisory/leadership role, when I was offered full time employment following season end, and was then shortly after promoted to supervisor. As my store manager and leader, you saw something in me that I didn’t quite know was there yet myself. We shared many conversations about leadership and life. I learned a lot from you in such a short period of time and want to thank you for the tools and inspiration you provided me with back then. There are so many leadership attributes and lessons that I have taken from observing you as a leader that has helped mold me into the leader I am in my organization today. The impact you have had on me is one I will forever be grateful for. I am glad I get the opportunity to continue to learn and grow by having a new avenue of listening to your experiences and advice. Good luck in your new business endeavor!
