As a non-native speaker, I started learning the English language 30 years ago. Back in the day in Yugoslavia (Serbia), I had a Scottish teacher, Mr. Callum something... I forgot his last name. I completely, and unfortunately, abandoned that Scottish accent. And I am sorry about that. Now, I am back again to improve my Glaswegian. That dialect exactly rang my lugs back then. This is a pure braw podcast, there.

Glad to find this interview. I recently read this book and it is a fascinating read. I have read many books on the city and this is one of the best in my opinion. The extracts from the historical documents are so interesting. I would encourage anyone living or interested in the city to read it.

Looking forward to Saturday gig. The boys are par excellence. I use to buy dodgy live concert recordings from the Barras. Like Prince, I always preferred the live versionsbto the studio Albums.

I'm sruggling to find the ideal superlative to describe the 40th Anniversary Show in Aberdeen on 10th October 2024. I loved it ❤ I wanted to hear 'Remote' but probably not fitting when Pat and Greg seem to be appreciating each others talents - love them ❤

Could listen to Greg's words on practise all day. What an inspiration. Jazz can feel unreachable but the way Greg broke that down is magic.

Celebrating 'being silly' and having the 'courage to look daft' is important but vastly overlooked. Kate Bush has a wonderful, if quirky, sense of humor. All the better artists seem to have that streak. She was so good at keeping her focus and controlling her music and videos. I am glad for her renewed fame with more exposure to her music. Now I may need to read her biography! She seems very bright and perceptive on many levels. Such a precocious and creative person with a determined vision. Wouldn't it be nice to sit down with her "for a long chat"? This mad recluse. LOL The only way I know John Martyn is through Phil Collins. He mentioned John's singing and songwriting in his interview with Howard Stern. I find his music soulful and creative. Why was he so self-destructive? A vast insecurity? An emperor with no clothes? It seems he never grew up (oh, you just said that!). He envied the gangster, which you say he was not, at heart. Conflicted. His early life seems the opposite of Kate's. Your discussion reveals an alcoholic personality with all the chaos and probable enablers in his life. A sad story of a brilliant yet self-destructive mind. Now I will need to reacquaint myself with the band 'Simple Minds'. But my next question would be who would you write about next. It seems you prefer people with ties to Scotland, so Phil Collins would not be on your list....perhaps with him there is not enough for which to write a biography? He certainly dared to look daft and had the fortitude to make fun of himself. Or Peter Gabriel, would he be a fine candidate? Thanks for the fine conversation.

An completely absorbing interview. Dare I say it, but Night Moves is a better film than Chinatown. It's an astonishing work. This podcast has given me the impetus to explore Sharp further. Elsewhere, he gives a very frank, iconoclastic assessment of Sam Peckinpah - who he met during the production of the Osterman Weekend. Sharp seems utterly driven to get to - and to tell - the plain truth; even (and perhaps especially) when it gets him in trouble! I appreciate this excellent podcast. Well done!👌

Early Simple Minds first 5 ( 6) Albums recorded between 1979-82 were absolutely amazing and filled with Artistic brilliance and so experimental sound scapes, then they went mainstream and more rock/ Pop and followed the same path as U2 through the door marked " Dollar and pound " and ok they had loads of no1 Albums and made a shed load of money and even made a few decent songs as time went on but when you listen to their early pre 1982 stuff then compare it to Dont you...its almost like a cosmic joke being played out. Having said all that even if you went through their Albums from 1990 until the present day you could still make a great double album, even if they have really been half a band with session players apart from" Neapolis" which of course was written in 1998 with Derek Forbes back in the fold and was half decent,.....but still all said and done Simple Minds are one of the greatest British bands of all time and deserve any praise for the joy and happiness they have given to millions of people around the world for decades and for that we must be eternally grateful, Thank you Simple Minds.
