I appreciate the video. I've got a similar model umbrella, but where you have the wing nut, I had a spot on each side for an allen wrench. Unfortunately, these were so frozen that I ended up stripping them. So it became an adventure of running fish tape up the tube, then struggling with what side of the pulley it decided to go on. So then I had to create a more bendable fish tape out of pipe cleaners and ran through with my pinky. I was about to give up and somehow it accidentally caught the right end and I could pull it through. All good now!

I can't get the drain to fit in a 1 1/2" trap adapter. If I cut 2 or more inches off, the flex diameter might be less, but I'm fearful of cutting it in case I'm wrong.😮

Where you able to fit this tub through a standard 28" door opening?

For whatever reason, mine wouldn't allow me to feed the new rope. It kept getting hung up, so I ended up using an irrigation hose. I pushed the hose all the way down to where the crank end is and then I was able to feed the paracord through the hose. The paracord I bought was about 4mm which was thicker than the original cord which made feeding it through the 3 holes on the crank a challenge at first. Take your time, walk away and come back later if you have to. Do this job once and the next time it will go so much easier. This vid helped a lot though.

I just had the same issue. When i got to the part where the cord feeds through the handle crank I thought that was too much to mess with, so I used a zepplin knot to connect a couple inches of new cord to the end of where the old cords snapped at the other end. I used nylon cord and was getting frustrated trying to snake it through the tiny hole on the end cap. I noticed my shoe lace would fit through so I tried wrapping the end of the nylon cord tight with scotch tape. then cut it to get a nice tight cut that was able to snake through with the stiffness of the tape. Anyway Im glad i found your video in case my zepplin knot idea doesn't work.

Mad kudos coming in from North Carolina. My brother in-law is a few hours away, and a Canadian Drunk Front is imminent! This video has me mission oriented and postured for success! On my way to buy paracord! As a former Army Paratrooper, I’m ashamed to say, I can’t seem to find a scrap of it here at the casa! LOL! AIRBORNE! ALL THE WAY!!! & Cheers from the Sunny Carolinas!!!! Good advice on video, fora 400.00 canopy the replacement canopy and paradors saves from having to buy a new umbrella at what is now a 549.00 dollar umbrella, I know, I bout another one just like it last year. So getting ready to replace the first ones rope…

First and foremost… Thank you for this video! Our cord just snapped (bought the same umbrella as you almost exactly four years ago, so it would seem to be par for the course), and I’m not looking to replace the whole thing, so this was soooooper helpful! Just FYI… Hampton Bay makes/sells replacement canopies for these, so the issue with the supporting rods poking through can be resolved by buying just a new canopy. They’re around $100-150. Make sure you have the model # handy to confirm it’s the right one before you buy (mine looks identical to yours, but in red - the model # is YJAF052).

I used a coat hanger to get the cord down the pipe inside the umbrella. After I was done, it seemed like going the reverse Direction might be easier, I will probably try that next time, as the one I did today was my mother-in-law's and I have the same kind. Hopefully the Paracord will last longer than the relatively low grade train that the manufacturer used. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to shape the end of the string, and also trying to feed the string over the top spindle and down into the pipe inside the umbrella until I decided to use a coat hanger for that part of the job. But I would probably still be working if I had not had this video to watch before I begin.

This video was a huge help to me because I had a broken lifter string on an almost identical Hampton Bay cantilever Umbrella. The work with the spindle that is turned by the crank was so much easier, seeing that someone else had already had to do what I wound up doing. And the comment from someone who said that they peeled back the Paracord and cut away the inside, then burned and shaped the end was exactly the method that I used to Anchor the Paracord in the crank spindle.

Very helpful. Thank you. I did use another method for the paracord/holes feeding. Pull out about an inch of white inner material. Cut and push black tubbing back over. Use a flame to seal the tubbing and shape into point. It is MUCH easier to feed the cord through without the inner material. Learning how to do that by watching another video.

Can you share a link to the wing nut and bolt at 19:29? The original pieces were crooked and popped out thus causing my rope to break in teh first place but not sure of the replacement bolt. Thank you for this informative video!

It's really nice! Now that it's in and working with no leaks, we're happy with it I don't think there's any way to adjust the pressure on the jets with this one. Yes just 1 gfci protected outlet required 😊
