Yes, today I am a Buddhist since I hold Buddha as my personal ideal. The Buddhists do not believe in God as the ultimate reality. Yes, there are gods. But man is considered to be the highest since he or she can achieve enlightenment and end the continuation of reincarnation and Karma. The Gods can not. I was an atheist until I was 33 years of age. At age 5 I refused to believe in God because no one could tell me who made god. And besides I learned that God cursed man with the knowledge of good and evil because Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. To have the knowledge of good and evil, seemed like a good thing. And I could not find anyone who could tell me why the knowledge of good and evil was a bad ting. And it seemed to me that God would certainly want us know good and evil. Actually I learned in Buddhism that all suffering has to do with our knowledge of good and evil. It is the most profound teaching when really understood. For everything good that happens to us, we are happy. And when anything bad happens to use we are unhappy. If we are happy it's because mostly good is happening. If we are miserable, it's because mostly bad is happening. I cover all this in my Book, Owner's manual for the human mind. sure Revelation is about what Fr. Hopko says on a spiritual sense, but there is a literal sense to all Scripture also. Orthodoxy doesn't spiritualize everything away. Jesus did't say when the abomination of desolation stading in the TEMPLE but in THE HOLY PLACE, the location of where the Holy of Holies was in the Temple on the Temple Mount is known. rebuilt temple or not, all the antichrist would have to do is stand where that was, and its location on the Temple Mount is known. Nero was only suggested as the antichrist in 1831 or something like that. I think that if this were a legitimate interpretationm, church fathers would have viewed it this way already. Nero was only a prefiguring of the antichrist. Fr. Hopkpo and others have been influenced by non Orthodox sources some of whom have insight on Scripture and history, some do not.

I appreciate his zeal and passion! However, his statement about the end of the world having already come so we have nothing to do down here etc... is a little be hyperbolic! We are a communion that are filled with The Holy Spirit that have been given gifts to serve God and one another enjoying the "benefits," of the Kingdom of God, succinctly Immanuel's Power, Provision and Presence to overcome, in The Lord's Mercy, the many mountains and toils and snares and deaths! And with all of these things to take them out into the world to shine among the night! Salvation is not just quantitive, it is also qualitative! "I came that they may have life and have it 'more abundantly.'-John 10:10 (prosperity heresies notwithstanding) I wish he'd parse that out more!
