Being from the bay area I remember a lot of hype about the release of the sophtware slump in 2000. I bought the album not knowing anything about what to expect but as soon as I heard He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot, I knew this was the one of first masterpieces of the 21 century.

Jack and the Beanstock! With a PortaStudio. I love that story. Not Jack n the Beanstock itself, but the Bros Reid analog of it. ..They have been the only people I've sworn to hang out with before I die. Jim Reid & William Reid. I'm 49 and to me Jim and William are the last of songwriters like Donovan/Bob Dylan. I'm so glad they are both still with us today; the last great artists No single band act has inspired me more, or shaped my life more than JAMC. For good or for ill. ..& I regret none of it. If you had to capture the time around 1984 in a cassette; like you'd capture a moment in a photograph, "Some Candy Talking" does exactly that with 1984. Darklands in 86 does the same and so does Atuomatic in 88. Even Stoned and dethroned around 93 was probably in a nose to nose tie with either Concrete Blonde "Joey," or Mazzy Star's "So tonight I might see." .. I've never seen other works of art that could do something like that, especially with such repetition without becoming stale.

Kenny has one of my all time favourite singing voices and is a lovely bloke too. I was lucky enough to spend some time with him in his dressing room a week or so ago in Nottingham drinking his rider and having a blether after the gig. Great human being and musical legend. ❤
