Hi, the first time I've seen your videos. A trifle fast, but I rewound. I'm very interested in more of the info on managing the dog while grooming. You said you lie the dog on its side. How do you accomplish that?😅 There is lots of great info on the different brushes, combs, and other products, though. I loved the video, liked, and subscribed but would have liked a little bit more info on separating the coat when drying (top coat, undercoat, etc.), also what type of dryers you were mentioning. I get the dog back from the groomer with a very wavy undercoat, and I wanted to know if I should rewet and use the spray you mentioned or how to handle that? Thank you

Thank you!! I had no idea I wasn't supposed to use the slicker brush on the top knot, neck, and tail. When you use a clarifying shampoo for a blow out, what do you do to keep the hair from matting because its so dry? Do you put them back in the bath for a condition or do you use a spray product to bring some moisture/protection back to the hair? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I need to educate myself as I'm a new standard owner. I'll go to your website for more information/instruction. Thanks.

They will also post the Breed and Group judging here on KZbin (not live), but we recommend checking here on the WKC website: www.westminsterkennelclub.org/viewing-schedule/ Please beware of anyone other than the verified Westminster Kennel Club social media pages offering you streaming or anything not from the WKC website - there are many scams out there these days!

It seems a shame to trim off a dog's vibrissae - {Whiskers} they use these as ''feelers'' - trimming the neck , tail or thigh hair where it comes together in ''cow licks'' is different, but dogs, especially if they hunt, really do use their vibrissae to help avoid obstacles.

I air jet line brush using the Big G Slicker brush with a high velocity blower/dryer specifically to get the mats out. For instance, on a poodle cuff I start at the bottom and blow the hair up, then pull the first line down by brushing down with the slicker brush. If you can see skin, it’s good. If it looks like the roots of a tree, it’s still matted. I go from bottom to top, straight up, and then repeat all the way around the cuff/boot. I start with a dog that has been jetted in the tub to remove most of the water, so the de-matting process is incorporated with the dry. The tail can be done the same way, but you have to hold the tail straight up, and hold the dryer hose between your shoulder and your cheek. Same thing for ears. If you can get the dog to lie down, the top knot is done back to front, like the cuff/boot. I use Crown Royale Biovite II and Conditioner Plus. In the heavily matted areas straight concentrate is worked into the mats with my fingers, otherwise everything is diluted to the recommendations on the bottles. After the rinse I use Ultimate Detangler on all of the problem areas, which in a Miami cut is eight. Sprayed on before drying on the table. With a puppy in coat change, the mats will come back right away, so all of this work is done just in order to cut the hair properly, and everything then gets line brushed before clipping. I am not a professional, I just have two poodles and an FCR. The FCR is the show dog. Thank God. The reason pro’s will not do this work is that it takes nearly a full day. I would not do it for a client for less than $800. Adult coats are way easier to deal with. Our older girl very rarely has any matted areas. She has grey/black hair. The puppy has white/apricot and that type of hair is substantially more work during the puppy/coat change phase. Cannot wait!

Thank you. My poodle is going through coat change. The mats are stupendous where his puppy coat is still present. I dream of being able to line brush him properly!

Both Corgi breeds are not to be trimmed at all except the bottom of the feet and perhaps lower edge of hocks to tidy a bit. No underline trimming.

Thank you for reiterating that scissor work should be respecting the breed. I have CKCS and there is SO MUCH trimming & sculpting the coat. This is not acceptable in our breed standard.

So true of scissor work! I don't have CKCS's, but every double-coat dog we've ever had requires very specific scissor work, and that's something many people don't understand. . . it's a very artistic skill.

Hi there, thank you very much for thorough explanation. It’s very helpful. I was just wondering how long the ionic function suppose to last? I understand it depends on how many dogs I groom. Let’s say 3-4 dogs a day. If you could give me general idea, would be helpful so that I’m not keep using out of function brush.

Hi Alison, I wonder if undershot jaws is a recessive trait? I have a breed that should have a scissors bite. Bred two dogs with perfect scissors bites. One of the puppies in the litter had an undershot jaw.

If you did a REAL video on grooming a Welshie, I would pay to watch it. Regarding all these products you showed, they’re ridiculous overkill and do not address the unique Welshie issue of maintaining red coat color.

This is so true! My first dog I showed was absolutely bored to death being shown because I utilized handling classes to train myself more than my dog. My second was trained much less and was much showier in the ring.
