Cb seems so much simpler. I don't unbranded why people would bother with ssb.

I joined and looking forward to talking to fellow DX'ers. I live on the west coast of NS and get some great MW from the USA. I've also recieve my hometown radio station on the east coast of NS. Have a few good radios... RSPDuo(s) R-30 and a PL990x... Ofcourse I also have a Pro 9 tablet and a Alienware X15r2... all for the hobby... Now just working on some good antennas... I camp a lot so they have to be portable... ML-30+ is a great antenna and I few of the passive ( uloops ) are all I have so far... had one of those100RX telescopics but broke it... ordering two once Christmas is over... Bought myself a SDS100 for Christmas... I see potential but hoping I am not going to be disappointed... Would be amazing if someone figured out the firmware.

So you can’t transmit with any of the radios connected?
@OfficialSWLchannel4 күн бұрын
no, this is a receive only device

I think a few things needs to be said about this radio. Given its price it would be expected that the quality control was better and that Tecsun actually understood what squelch is supposed to do. I had to return my first set since it suffered from some weird audio issues which made everything sound crap (like overdrive/distorted). The second set did not have this issue. Also the VFO was stiffer and the telescopic longer on the second set. Both sets showed a strange issue in where it can suddenly go absolutely quiet (display still show the frequency) when connecting/disconnecting either antenna or headphones. That sitation can only be solved by switching the radio off/on. And as mentioned the squelch is .. we'll not a squelch. It is a mystery how they could failwith that. But all that said I still like this radio because it performs well and it is so much more fun and pleasant to operate than all these "travel size" ones with fiddly controls.

Thanks for the review. XHData has a deal right now for a D808 and one of these for 60$ + 15$ for shipping so I figured I'd need to know what add on I was getting. Seems like it's not a bad little add on.

I've got a Tecsun PL-660 that I purchased new several years ago. Is it worth upgrading to the PL-680?
@OfficialSWLchannel4 күн бұрын
Not really , they are very similar

I just took delivery of the Sangean. The whip antenna isn't an indication of performance. To say it's a compromise is an understatement. The Sangean has a better front end for strong signals, and it has a proper S meter which absent a band scope is essential. Tecsun seems to want to use the same crappy display in every radio. Sangean has a better Sync detector. The dynamic range of the Tecsun isn't great. Sensitivity is easy on a HF radio and is not a prime indicator of a receiver performance. I suspect the Tecsun has bigger internal ferrite bar.

I love Shortwave radio. I have a quite extensive shortwave collection. I have the Tecsun PL-330 PL-990 Tecsun S-2200X Qodosen SR-286 XHDATA D-808 D-328 Raddy RF-750 Sangean ATS 909 X2 and the ATS20+ arduino based radio receiver. It is kind of Sad shortwave radio is not popular anymore yet there are still shortwave radio manufactured out of China. I wish there were more Japanese manufacturies like Panasonic or Sony

I gladly gave up the air band on the 330 to have the etm memory banks. I scan all frequencies in VF mode, as it pauses on each frequency, I hit the memory button and go back and check to see if I want to save that station. If I want to save it for the time slot, I just key in that frequency to the etm memory bank for that hour. The 330 automatically changes memory banks for each hours location. After a few weeks, I have most stations for each hour block of memory, 24 hours a day. Very handy to go and check the current hour bank without having to rescan and look to see what's on. I also bought two spare batteries, and use the Midland emergency radio ER - 210, which can power other devices like the pl - 330 from its USB power port, and also has crank and solar charging. The combination of those two radios is is better for me than any other radio I have found so far. Thanks for the video.

Just a question Gilles aty location in Alabama for some reason I'm getting chu on 3330 SW but it comes in stronger at 7850 SW and I'm even able to receive it in mid day time not just at night. Just curious why this is??
@OfficialSWLchannel5 күн бұрын
Depending on Propagation conditions ... think of skip distance going longer distances higher in frequencies and at the same time ... the higher the frequency the less absorption in daytime. So 3330 will mostly be a night time occurence, 7850 at the distance you are can be a daytime occurence. But take note when the days are going to get longer again...how that 7850 will change and might even be impossible in summer months

Thank you for explaining why that radio is so much more superior. It’s just like having a transceiver where you can actually just tune in on each frequency sounds good.

I am thinking of using this in a sheltered but unheated location. It would be protected from rain and snow, but temperatures could drop to 10 F (-12 C). It would be powered by a 12 V car battery with a 5V USB converter. Is this setup worth a try?

It's a shame that sdrplay aren't integrating the IQ lite and the web-server functionality into the normal version of the sdrconnect.. I already have an Rspdx and a Raspberry pi and use sdrconnect in server mode, it would be nice to have the IQ lite and the web-server without having to spend €500 for the same thing in a metal box...

Around 6pm EST, on the nearly longest night of the year, on the 49m night-band, shooting 500 kWatts through a lot of darkness. (Presuming that the transmitter is in Turkey)
@DD-uq8qg7 күн бұрын
Sounds like this thing is a one-box substitute for the sdr dongle + raspberry pi combination. Looks like this thing consumes 2.5 watts vs 12 - 15 watts of raspberry pi. (Can survive longer on a battery). It saves on the pain of installing software/configuring the pi/the router. It is also wide-band, up to seeing airplane transponders (f.e. In Arctic Canada).
