I have a 2024 with the naturally aspirated 2.4, no stop and start…thank goodness! This year they made the base model with upgrades that were in the 2023 next up the ladder model and got rid of the base model. I disagree that this version isn’t fun to drive. It’s much a better handling car than anything else in this category at this price point. It has a firm ride, but it’s very quiet. Mazda added the acoustic glass in the windshield and the driver’s and passenger’s sides There’s no brake issues that he describes here. Mine also has the fully painted, color matched cladding around the wheels and the lower body, no vinyl. I get 25-27 mpg around town and 30-31 on the highway with no effort. I have run 93 octane in mine and it seems to be a bit quicker. Anyway, it’s a great car.

Put the car in Sport mode and drive it a bit more aggressively and see how the trans shifts. Switch back and forth between the modes. If these cars truly do learn driving patterns maybe you can teach it to shift how you want it to.

I have a new 2024 cx5 select with now only 300 miles on it. It does not have the CYLINDER DEACTIVATION nor the I stop. They stopped putting that in since late 2023. My transmission shifts extremely smooth in all gears and temps. My friend bought a new 2023 cx5 Preferred in April 2023 it has the dreaded CD and I stop. My car runs smoother, quieter and better engine performance overall than the Preferred. I remember his transmission shifting very well except a little laggy around corners or say u turns because of that CD KICKING ON AND OFF constantly. All I can say is Not having CD and I stop made my decision final over the Rav 4.

My two cents...I have a 2024 Mazda CX-5 Premium. I bought it in September of 2023 as it just came into the dealership. It has the I-Stop button. Operationally, It seems to only shut the engine off when I brake harder than normal. I generally brake gently and it does not activate. If I am stopped after gentle braking and I press the brake pedal harder, the engine shuts off. As I release the brake it starts again. Seems that braking pressure is one of the parameters. I'm not sure this is normal but I actually like it this way. It's my wife's car and she loves it!

So let me get this straight you pay around a dollar more per gallon to get better gas mileage??? Wheres the logic?
@vlreviews

The benefits are at least threefold. 1) About 10% higher gas mileage 2) About 10% higher horsepower 3) Less carbon buildup in the engine Just the above makes it well worth it for me over the last 40 years, but there are more reasons as well.

I have a brand new cx5 I bought 3 weeks ago. The transmission performance and smooth shifting is one of the reasons I bought it. NOW that said the car only has 200 miles on it. But it does not have cylinder deactivation or I stop. They took those crappy features out in late 2023 models. Look at your VIN if there is an L in the eighth position you do not have those features. According to Mazda's website, NO 2024 S model has those features. I have more detailed comment on that subject on your latest video. I mean I don't know what to say. Mine runs perfect

Remember, the correct conditions have to be met, such as cold soaking the engine initially. BTW, both my 2024's exhibit this issue. Both started skipping around 400 miles and both have a manufacture date of 11/23.

Per my comment below on cylinder deactivation I believe I had the vin info incorrect. If it has an"M". Not R". In the 8th vin digit it has the features. Well, just google or go to the Official Mazda site. It has the statement neither of the features are in any 2024. So you must have a mid- late 2023 they called a 2024.

NOTE; Mazda discontinued both the i stop and cylinder deactivation functions ( to my delight). Since about late 2023 Mazda claims because of supplier issues, they had to discontinue those ridiculous functions. I know none of the cx5's have those functions anymore, I assume it was removed in all 2.5 models. Go to the Official Mazda site and you will find nothing but a short explanation related to supplier issues. I personally do not believe that story but as I stated earlier I hated especially the cylinder deactivation. Really on a 4 cylinder engine that is prone to carbon build up, you deactivate 2 jugs constantly. I would have gone Rav4 but found this info at the last second. They DO NOT ADVERTISE the fact that the systems are gone. It is gone in the screen software and the i stop button is not installed. Half the salesman either don't know ots gone or are playing dumb...ha normal. ANY new Mazda Cx 5 and others without the dreaded features can also be identified with an "L" as the 8th digit in the vin. If it is an "R' well you still have it like it or not. I guarantee in my experience my car without that garbage installed runs so notably better then my friends cx5 preferred made in April 2023 that has it. I am going on and on. Of you want a better cx5 hurry and get one before they reintroduce those useless and carbon building features.

@hwdan3096
@hwdan3096 9 күн бұрын
I don't have a Mazda with i-stop but from my research looking models with it, this is what I understand. i-stop is back on by default every time you start the car. The button is only used to turn it off and there should be an i-stop OFF indicator meaning it's disabled (and obviously press it to turn back on if you first turned it off). For some of the lesser known conditions, It is brake pressure sensitive (vacuum) so if you have a light hold on the brake, the car may not shut off. You also need to have your steering straight without much hand pressure on the wheel for it to activate. Sport mode also may also defeat it. If you are stopped on an incline/decline, it may also not necessarily turn off.
@RodneyW
@RodneyW 10 күн бұрын
8:53 The third symbol is the engine. The idea is that there are 3 components that need to be ready for iStop to activate. The engine needs to be warm so that the restart is not causing unnecessary wear. The battery needs to be charged sufficiently to support the vehicle with the engine off. Finally, the A/C represents the idea that the vehicles interior temperature is pretty close to the temperature set on the climate control system. When the system says "Not Ready" its means that one of those conditions is not met. The most usual reason it does not activate is when the climate control settings are set to two significantly different values for the driver and passenger. (e.g. Lo for the driver, and a number for the passenger, which is the setting that I often use).

We bought a new Cx5 Premium, manufactured in march of 2024. They have neither the Istop or CDA and I like that. I got a copy of the bulletin and it stated that they stopped putting those in the Cx5 after November 2023 for the reason of chip shortage. By listening to mechanics and others, that might be the stated reason but it possibly could be due to to some problems with both.🤷 I frankly am glad that they are not on ours. Number one I don't want my engine shutting down in traffic unless I shut it down and as far as CDA, other manufacturers have tried it and what I've heard, they were problematic with cylinder issues. As far as 93 octane, unless the manufacturer recommends or requires it, I don't waste my money. Each his own though. Thanks for the video.👍

Nearly all Mazda's sold in Australia have the cylinder deactivation and iStop "fuel efficiency" features. I have effectively disabled iStop through climate control settings. To disable cylinder deactivation, the only real solution is to drive it a bit more assertively.... (it activates when in a very gentle cruise).

I think you make some very good points. If you ever get to watch some videos made at Mazda corporate events like new model intros where they interview the engineers and product planners, it seems clear that Mazda has a unique set of priorities that cater to a very specific and small market segment. That leads to the rough ride, the hard seats and the lack of refinement in certain areas. You also see a degree of corporate obstinence in their use of an obsolete 6-speed transmission and a unique infotainment system that is a love/hate thing. Those who are willing to accept those things in return for some of the old zoom-zoom seem to be their target market, but it also prevents them from achieving greater success.
