PMS over DMS They need powerful Amps to come alive because of lower impedance from the parallel-wired drivers. You can buy a pair for around £600 - £1.5k (upgrade the drivers - especially the bextrene midrange for a Monacor Kevlar or ScanSpeak Illuminator) [Falcon Acoustics sell uprated B139 bass drivers] get a £200 - £1k DSP, three decent stereo power amps and they will compete with many speakers up to £40k. Everyone recommends Naim amps but they really come alive with serious amplification. I bought a second pair from a guy who ran analogue active crossovers with Naim amps. He was gobsmacked when It took me just two minutes to dial in the crossover frequencies and required slopes on my recording studio dsp via via my iPad. Then when he heard them driven by 3.8kW of regulated power supply audiophile (not pa) power amps his jaw hit the floor. Tri-amped: Tweeters: 900W Sanders Magtech stereo Midrange: 900W Sanders Magtech stereo Bass: 2000W Sanders Magtech Monoblocks You could have an active, tr-amped set-up from around £2k and it will trounce an awful lot of overpriced, passive audiophool gear.

They have been a firm favourite in our household since 82 and remain so. Have tried many contenders and bought a few over the years as lucky enough to have a few systems dotted around the house. AE1 Mk1 a good effort but the Kans do things that I've not heard other speakers do although Quad ESL57 were close but at the expense of a much larger footprint that wasn't conducive to keeping the peace. Nice setup you have indeed.

@@charlescheese3828 my tongue was firmly in my cheek. Chrome bumper Naim with a Sondek probably one of the most musically engaging systems ever. These days we seem to be chasing ephemera, you cannot have it all. Only thing that has really improved for me are phono stages. Happy listening. PS ooh I forgot something nowadays I find a power conditioner essential because the house is fully off cheapo switch mode power supplies (phono charger, LED light bulbs etc etc), and all these things put noise and DC offset on the mains. Just my $0.02 worth.

Is there no problem for you with publishing copyrighted music? Others on KZbin (especially videos involving cassette decks) use some special free music (Sounds often like muzak to me).
@charlescheese38283 ай бұрын
Sometimes KZbin is not allowed and then the video is automatically withheld - the site is very quick to identify the song once uploaded and block if necessary. Examples include The Beatles and Prince, but increasingly artists are open to KZbin using their music. Fleetwood Mac and Paul Simon have both changed their policy in recent years.

@charlescheese38289 ай бұрын
It will probably take a long time to find them. You could try a wanted add on pinkfishmedia.net - I got my CB160 that way. Alternatively, email all the Naim dealers. Takes time but I turned up a few bits that way. Sometimes Darran at Class A will also have something. Otherwise it's just a case of waiting for one to come up on ebay via a saved search. Good luck!
@johncreet12549 ай бұрын
I had a pair of the original Saras and heard them with a range of amps including a Nytech receiver, Linn pre and power, Naim 160, 250 and 135 monoblocks. The speakers were good but they were very demanding in terms of amplification. To get the best out of them you needed at least a Naim 250; the 135s really made them sing but at a somewhat prohibitive cost for most people at the time.
@charlescheese38289 ай бұрын
Yeah, the 9s are supposed to be easier to drive but this CB160 also struggled at times. What did you get in the end?
@johncreet12549 ай бұрын
@@charlescheese3828 I ended up with a Linn pre+power largely for cost reasons. However, this proved to be a mistake. I didn't have the money at the time to go for a Naim 250 and tried to compromise with the Linn amps. The best course would have been to go for the Naim 160 and upgrade later when I had the funds for a 250. A few years later I was burgled with the amps and one of the Saras being stolen!
@charlescheese38289 ай бұрын
How strange to take just one speaker. So what did you get with the insurance money? Was that LK1/LK280 or Pretek/Powertek you had from Linn? I am thinking of getting an LK1 to partner the LK280 that's being serviced.
@johncreet12549 ай бұрын
@@charlescheese3828 Does seem strange - the only thing I can think of is that they must have been disturbed somehow and had to rush out of the house. If I remember correctly, the amps were LK1/LK2. The LK280 wasn't out at the time. I think the LK280 was probably a better power amp but not having heard one, I don't have any experience to know how it was better.

Magnificent sound, do you think they could work in a very small rectangular room 7ft 8 x 11ft 2 driven by a nap 180?
@charlescheese3828 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul! If they are serial 6,701 or later they should have the 4ohm external crossover and be absolutely fine with a passive NAP180. Earlier ones are much harder to drive though so not sure the 180 will be enough. Personally, I would avoid serial 8,293 onwards with the Kustone filling based on a couple of reports of them sounding a bit boring. Can't help ref the small room - perhaps another youtuber will see this and can advise.
@matthewjctalbot Жыл бұрын
It's possible! My room is 11ft x 20ft, but I play across the short side, meaning the front of the briks is 6ft from the front of the sofa, and they're spaced 7ft 5 apart (using outer edges). Leaning back on the couch, speakers slightly toed in, the distance (just!) works. The only difference from you is the 7ft of width/space I have either side, which I suspect will make a big difference to the listening experience. Honestly, it's worth a try.
@n.lyndley.9889Ай бұрын
Yes! 60W would give you sufficient spl’s in that sized room. Some damping on the wall behind your seating position could help in this size room. If that amplifier allows an uprated Naim power supply that would probably help control the bass drivers.

Thanks! Yes, I feel pretty much the same, although I do like Lejonklou and have also ordered a Nait 50 so will be interesting what that is like. Such a shame Linn don't service their amps and I'm wary of going elsewhere. So, any particular favourites out of all your Linn/Naim gear?
@devrajbanerji9039 Жыл бұрын
I fully agree!
@mercury81809 ай бұрын
I do not have any favourites from my collection. I look upon each component as a musical instrument with each one having its own distinctive musical flavour depending on my mood as to which combo I use. Unlike a lot of naim users I like the nac92 nap90.3 combo with or without flatcap. I also like my trusty nait 3 I also have a nait 50 and an 83 nait 1 and a good few other olive series amps. I love my kolector/klout X2 combo but am just as happy listening to my intek as well. I do have more modern Linn pre/power combos but I use mostly the 90s stuff. Interestingly I have owned two olive nait 2 amps and sold them both as I find the nait 3 has the same musicality but with more wellie .
