I had todo this on my v65 magna a few years ago. Didn’t separate but got them all cleaned. Spent half the day getting them back on the bike and started up and the crossover fuel lines were leaking now. So back off they came and head to separate them and then back on bike. Was a real pain but good experience. Wish this video was out then

I have heard so many of those stories about those lines leaking. I think that was one of the main reasons I took them all the way apart was to replace all those o rings. Thanks for watching!

It's been my experience that ignition boxes and the like don't just "go bad" while the bike is sitting, they fail due to other more serious problems. But you know what does go bad while they're sitting there? Switch contacts and connectors. If you've got good coils, and it looks like you have, the very first place I'd start looking is the kill switch, and the connectors between it and the coils and the spark units. According to the clymer book of fairy tales for the 500 interceptor, that's the black and white wire to coils and ignitors, it's probably the same for the 700. Again according to clymer / 500, the fan fuse is separate from the other fuses probably so it runs when the switch is off, orange/blue wire from the ignition switch. I'd suspect a corroded contact on the ignition switch. A good starting point for any old bike before you do anything else is to go through the loom, unplugging, spraying contact cleaner, and replugging.
@84c4corvetteguy5
@84c4corvetteguy5 Ай бұрын
There are differences between the 500 and the 700/750 as far as the way they work, they are very similar but do have differences such as your discrepancy in the wiring colors and other things. The Honda shop manual doesn't even include the 500 or the 1000 because of the amount of differences. I am using the factory shop manual to diagnose this bike not Clymer which I believe is not nearly as good as the official Honda manual and in the Honda manual there is the fuse that you described but that is for the 1983 and I have a 1985 which uses a updated system and a different wiring diagram both of which are in the Honda book as it covers 1983 to 1985. I think it had been sitting so long because it died and no one took the time to diagnose it properly. The ohm meter doesn't lie 12 Mega ohms isn't even close to speck for that pulse generator. As you saw I did disconnect and check the harness and the connectors in the video and they all appeared to be good. I have several more videos on getting this bike to run and I' going to go completely through it . I post one every Tuesday and I hope that you will continue to watch them. Thanks.
@wibblywobblyidiotvision
@wibblywobblyidiotvision Ай бұрын
@@84c4corvetteguy5 I certainly will continue to watch! You'll have it back up and running soon, I'm sure. And yeah, the honda manual kicks the clymer book into the weeds, it's just that I had the clymer book sat on the desk :)

big mistake to remove the wire if u dont know why its there as its powering something. u needed to check the pulse generators earlier in the process and check for power going to igniter box. u dont know alot as its not necessary to remove any cover to check pulsers, just measure ohms at the plug. its not easy to find new parts for bikes this old.
@wibblywobblyidiotvision
@wibblywobblyidiotvision Ай бұрын
With absolutely no due respect, bollocks. If "u" can't be fucked to throw a sentence together, "u" probably shouldn't be telling people they don't know "alot". In fact, it's generally taken a sign that "u" don't know "shit". Firstly, the wire is solely powering the fan circuit, which is unnecessary until the engine is actually running - a dubious looking wire shunt jammed between fuses is a good sign there are electrical problems that need fixing, and may be causing problems itself; it needs to be removed and the problem needs to be fixed Secondly, if you're testing components like the ignitor, you should always test on the component itself and not somewhere else down the line. You don't know if the loom has fucked wires, or the connectors between your test point and the component are corroded.
@84c4corvetteguy5
@84c4corvetteguy5 Ай бұрын
That wire wasn't factory that was someone's backyard fix for getting the fan to run. all that could do is overheat a circuit that was not designed to handle the amperage of 2 circuits. I diagnosed this problem in a up coming video. Rule one in electrical diagnosis is to always start by checking powers and grounds. Did I need to go all the way back to the CDI units no but it was a good way to check the entire wiring harness and connectors as it is a 40 year old bike and according to the shop manual there wasn't a plug/connection where you saw me test it the book had it inside the cover. I'm completely restoring this bike so after I get it to run I will pull the entire bike apart and go through the entire bike. I hope you will continue to watch my videos.

There is such a small HP difference between the Crossfire and the Tuned port so that didn't matter to me and I don't like the LT1 engine or the newer style dash. I was a GM mechanic most of my life and spend a lot of the 80's at a Pontiac dealer so the Trans Ams had both engines and regardless of what some people say I fixed more Tuned port problems then Crossfire problems. There's a lot less to go wrong and they are much easier to work on then the Tuned Port. Thanks for your comment!

@@84c4corvetteguy5 The crossfire is the most anemic engine ever put in a Corvette, it was a direct response to the oil crisis in the early 80's, same reason why there was no 83 Vette Even my v6 Mustang would have confidently beat a crossfire and I pulled that thing out to put a 5.3 Vortec in it Every Vette deserves to be *fast*, and the crossfire dual throttle body injection intake setup is very antithetical to that purpose But as before, the most important thing is that you enjoy the car, which you very much seemingly do. I personally would have ripped the crossfire out the day I got the car and sell it, putting it towards a proper engine
@84c4corvetteguy5
@84c4corvetteguy5 2 ай бұрын
@@CyberdriveAutomotive Actually the most anemic cars were the late 70's car but I get what you saying. I was a dealership mechanic in the early 80's at a Pontiac dealer so I learned on the crossfire cars that were in the 1982,3,4 Trans ams. This is why I bought it, more to put it back together than really to drive it that being said it does handle like it's on rail and even to this day there are not a lot of cars that corner as well as that car. Not to be smart but your V6 Mustang would end up in a tree trying to keep up with it🤣

Thank you for your very kind words. I believe that is the only weatherstrip that I have not changed on the car.
