Something is lost in a radio adaptation. Characters not as well-developed and much of the flavor is gone. Jackie sounds like a hyper twelve-year-old. The movie is great!

Death on the Nile is a classic but doesn't really work well on radio . Nothing to do with the excellent cast or production. The intricate plot is difficult to grapple with using only dialogue especially in the early scenes ? John Moffat splendid as ever !

Delicious, but knowing Hastings moves onto Argentina, shortly, is a loss for the reader. This wonderful comradery ends. Nothing lasts forever. Thank you so much for a rewarding listen.

Kirksvoice might do a mildly successful job of reading book written for young American kids. Hearing it trying to tell the story of an English gentleman's gentleman is about as enjoyable as listing to a trained parrot discoursing on Cartesian dualism.

Crazy, right? Makes you think how times have changed! And Agatha Christie’s sharp eye for detail really brings that era to life-it's like a snapshot of a different world. 🎉🎧😊

@@jimshelley8831you seem to miss the point. The road deaths in 1936 were incredibly high even with so much fewer cars on the road.
@SunburntHands
@SunburntHands 27 күн бұрын
Quite so. Road accidents above about 50mph were almost a death sentence for everyone involved back then. Consider how many murders in old books are committed by tampering with people's brakes. That seemed a plausible way to kill someone in the 30s, and it really doesn't today.

This story was first published more than a century ago. That makes me wonder if Christie's fans at the time were so naïve as to think that all the murders with which British, French, and U.S. police had to cope were as convoluted in real life as they were in Ms Christie's fertile imagination. I doubt it. I have to think that, once one of Ms Christie's murders is fully explained, it is no more interesting than is a correctly completed Sunday Times crossword puzzle. They both become nothing more than curiosities to those who struggled with them passionately. It's the understandable human desire of the reader to get ahead of or at least keep up with Ms Christie's spinning the yarns that fuel and propel their popularity to such a degree that their lack of a firm link with life as it's lived is of no concern. It's all make believe from the get-go and we delight in yet another chance to suspend disbelief.

Great comedy, but yet again spoilt by the ridiculous audience laughter. Either 'canned' and pre-recorded or an incredibly stupid studio audience who laugh when prompted with no knowledge of what they are laughing at.
