I just got the Sony a7cii which has the same ai focusing. It looks pretty sweet on the ZVE1. How do you like that camera. Also all shots with the 42mm?
@Braedin
@Braedin Жыл бұрын
Nice! I’m waiting on an a7cii as well. ZV-E1 autofocus is unreal but the lens I used is fully manual so I just set it roughly towards what im filming and hope for the best haha When I’m not hiking I’ll have the lens on my bigger gimbal with lidar autofocus but that set up is too heavy for hikes

After seeing this video I think I may cancel my preorder on the Mercurys. The lens looks very soft and looks like it has a coat of vaseline on the optics constantly. Thanks for posting this up.

Thanks for the comment, keep in mind this is a preproduction lens and I’m using a $2k camera and a 1/4 stop diffusion. I like this look, but there’s a fair amount more going on than just the lens, including the wild fire smoke in the atmosphere.

@Braedin I love the footage you produced and the look but rethinking some of my work I am going to need sharper. I watched in 4K and felt like it was 1080 stretched to 4k but that could be you tube compression.
@Braedin
@Braedin Жыл бұрын
@@silvergts1998when I compared the lens to my Sony 35mm GM it’s much softer outside the center of frame but it looks WAY better in my opinion which is why I never use AF or photo lenses anymore 😅
@silvergts1998
@silvergts1998 Жыл бұрын
@@Braedin so basically you have to keep your subject always in the center to be somewhat in focus so they don't look soft?
@Braedin
@Braedin Жыл бұрын
@@silvergts1998 I’m sure every one of my shots was a bit out of focus to some extent, I had it on a tiny gimbal for the hike and was focusing by hand. From what I’ve noticed it’s plenty sharp in the middle and has a nice roll off and barrel distortion towards edges so I’d keep subject on the inner 2/3 of the frame. It’s a 42 but has the horizontal FOV of a 28mm, I wouldn’t put any face near the edge of a 28

Depends on the application. If you are trying to get a theatrical release, 11k is nothing and it'll look good on a big screen. If you're just making a YT video, $20 is fine.

True but it’s an unfair comparison when the anamorphic lens is just sitting there when the camcorder is being held and moved by someone.

Great footage! And if you want an epic tip to level up your roasts or thick cut steaks, try a REVERSE sear next time! Makes it more even on the inside, PLUS you can get a darker char without making the outer 1/3rd too tough. Especially if you have the heat for the sear part absolutely BLAZING. Also, set your temp probe to 10-15 degrees lower than you want your final temp. About 123-125 degrees on the probe before you take it out for the sear will get you medium-rare post-sear. For steaks, I sear 1min on each side and 30-sec on the edges (IF I do the edges). I haven't done a roast this way, yet, so IDK the sear time for all 4-6 sides of that, but I think a minute will probably still turn out well.
