Also he didn't tell Sasuke the truth so that he would be stronger to defeat his prodigy brother, and that means that Itachi wanted Sasuke to become stronger in order to protect the Village. Then Itachi joins the Akatsuki as a spy, so then he would know if the Akatsuki we're about to do something to the Village, that's why he cried before killing he's parents, then Sasuke kills Itachi and after he's death, Obito tells Sasuke the truth and he cried. And when Sasuke told him why he killed the whole clan, he said it was for his training, but that's not the truth, he had to cover the truth since he's anbu and also so that Sasuke would become stronger. Now tell me Itachi was the bad guy.
