Couldn't it have just been a bad crimp on that one round?
@nategaudette42282 ай бұрын
could've been a poorly sized piece of brass, but you dont really need a crimp, if the brass is sized well the neck tension should hold the bullet. But yea, id say it could have definitely been a specific round defect.
@Patrick.Henry17762 ай бұрын
@@nategaudette4228 bro, the die provides the neck tension when the bullet is seated. Neck tension and crimp are basically the same thing. The neck tension isn't on the case before seating the bullet.

@nategaudette42282 ай бұрын
@@Patrick.Henry1776 no that isnt true. a crimp, and neck tension are completely different, and completely different dies, and processes. You set neck tension while sizing the casing, you crimp after seating the bullet.
@Patrick.Henry17762 ай бұрын
@@nategaudette4228 neck tension is set when the bullet is seated not on the sizing die. How can you set neck tension before you push the bullet into the case? I know neck tension and crimping are different. I didn't say they were the same. They just perform similar functions. Crimping is done on a case where the bullet has a cannelure. Neck tension is done on a straight sided bullet.

Misaligned gas block and too heavy of a buffer.
@GunBoss17763 ай бұрын
Drill out the gas port SLIGHTLY and itll work fine. Go through routine maintenance first and if it has an adjustable gas block, put it on the next setting to allow more gas. After all that is checked, drill it out. just a little will do. It doesn't look like its had 3000+ rounds so i personally dont think its gas rings but its an easy check to see if they are good by turning the bcg upside down to see if it holds its own weight up.
@kilpeoplebreaksht3 ай бұрын
It was immediately apparent it's either under gassed or misaligned gassblock (causing a under gassed issue) maybe maaaaaybe buffer weight or spring since it's a "pistol"

Of the thousands of m4 style rifles I’ve had to repair, I may have run into an actual issue with gas rings once. It’s almost never the rings, unless you buy one of those gimmicky one piece setups that everyone thinks is better. Its not. With a normal set up, one ring can even break completely (I demo that by firing with only two work out rings) and the other two will get the job done. I’ve demonstrated this in teaching other people how to diagnose and fix gas issues.

@@richardsveum8452 that’s insane! Not surprising if you got a whole batch of bolt carriers out of spec from windham rifles, but extra space from out of spec carriers is the only way you’d have that many failures from rings. I’ve done it a long time and never seen that many.

The gas rings will function just fine with the gaps lined up. No need to worry about that. Its a myth a lot of people get hung up on. Ive never had an issue from the gaps being lined up.

If you apply the same logic that you would to cylinder rings on a piston... Yes you should stagger them! Better seal and less wear. Ask yourself, "would Eugene Stoner stagger the gaps on the gas rings on the rifle he was engineering?" FUQ YES HE WOULD!!!!!!!!
