They are sucked up into the air. The shape of the wing creates low pressure on top of the wing and this essentially sucks them up into the air. They aren't pushed up into the air by high pressure under the wing otherwise they would not be able to carry stores under the wing. This is why military aircraft can have their under wing stores completely loaded but the top of the wing is always clear.
