I think one of the things that makes Jason in an elite class is because he is very athletic and an excellent rider. He always looks balanced with great equitation. This, I am sure translates into how preciise and consistent he is on the horses back....relative to the conversation about good horses....you also need to be a good rider...bad, unbalanced, poor hands and seat riding is not going to allow a horse to shine, nor even learn properly. Though, relative to Casey's vs. Jason's training techniques...I personally prefer the final product of Casey as his horses don't look like dominated robots to me, they look more relaxed....I have never been to a clinic by either one so can't speak to their techniques...of course, I don't mean any disrespect. For me, having a happy looking horse is really fundamental and should be rewarded.

Terry was a judge when I was a kid, and he gave a western riding demo on an App :). Back in the day there used to be some really pretty, nice Apps, nowadays hardly anyone breeds nice one's anymore, though people still love the color...certainly there could be quarter horses's with the App color, which is basically what the nice ones were. Good, meat on the bones episode...yeah, I hate when they come out on the wrong lead in the rollback. I also, don't understand why they can't break the manuevers up more such that they don't have so many tied scores all over the place. Great explanation re good moving horses. As well per this discussion how the industry has changed.. I wish they would consider a change to the futurity...3 year old is really too young for the horses to do the whole pattern in full shank bridles, can it be done, yes, is it pushing it, yes....dressage etc. have a gradual approach for horses to compete at, gradually progressing based on age.

Everything was moved from Denver to Loveland Colorado except for the stock show. Our arena here in Loveland is better. Loveland is 45-50 minutes north of Denver

I agree that the NP derby winners did a good job of not running off in that heat, but I also think it would be cool if NRHA creates a set of “run off” patterns. That are only 2-3 maneuvers back to back.

Thank you guys for covering this. I lost my 2 year old in this tragedy and the pain and grief we as owners are feeling is overwhelming. Many will have to start from scratch and this was our entire investment as you said. Many may never come back to this industry and we need the youth and amateur riders. They make this industry. Please pray for the owners and don’t let them get lost in this.

My daughter, Abigail called this place home for almost 8 months as a part of Brandon’s team. She puts her heart and soul into the care and wellbeing of any animal but horses especially and loved so many of those beautiful creatures that perished. My heart goes out to all the families involved with the losses! Especially the Brant & Priest families! I have watched this amazing girl grieve over all of them and the thoughts of the what if’s. Her room was the first one and closest to the horses and was shown in a picture with flames that day on Facebook. My heart dropped thinking she could have been in there. She told me that around that time of day she would usually have been making her way back to her room to be done for the day. Getting a shower to come visit with us or taking a nap as kids do. A few weeks before The Buckeye show she decided to go in a different direction and made the very hard decision to tell the Brant’s she was leaving. At the time i didn’t really love the decision but she’s a big girl now and has to make her own life choices. As a parent you want to help guide your kids in the right direction but I truly believe god knew she could not be there for something like this. She lived with very good friends of ours in Venice, Florida on their breeding farm during the devastating hurricane that destroyed so much and helped with the rescue of many horses after the levy failed and flooding occurred. Before it got too bad we tried to get her to leave until it blew over but she would not leave the horses or her second family at the time the Griffiths. So many have reached out telling us they were so glad she wasn’t there because she would have definitely tried to go save the horses and could have ended up like Eric or worse may have been trapped in her room unable to get out fast enough. I am so thankful for the opportunity Brandon and Cathy gave her and the wonderful memories she will always have with them. Things can be replaced/rebuilt & with everyone’s help they will be back in full swing in no time. Many prayers your way to get you through all of this!

I am a firefighter and a horseman and from my stand point there was no saving anything we as firefighters train for different scenarios and with airpacks on we cannot see a hand in front of us in any structure fire but this was metal and the heat that was generated our gear could not endure that. But sprinklers and fire alarms do help in a barn lets face it anything is better than nothing. There is no one to blame my heart goes out to both trainers and the owners for sure is every horse owners nightmare but we can learn from this and if you have questions on what to do to make your barn safer big or small reach out to your local fire dept they or fire marshall. Prayers for all involved.

Brandon is my daughter's trainer, and she thinks the world of him and his horse family. This breaks all of our hearts, can't imagine going through this. I am so impressed with the amazing horse community in stepping up us a village. Gives me hope for mankind. He is the Phoenix, he will rise from the ashes. God Bless you Brandon and Eric.

I’ve been an admirer of the reining industry for years. Seeing this news broke my heart, but it’s partially mended by seeing the support and generosity of the horse community and the love pouring from the reining community to support a friend in his time of need. I don’t know Brandon, but I’m impressed by the strength in his voice. Thank you, gentlemen, for such a heartfelt episode. Y’all took on such a tough topic and executed so tastefully. My thoughts and prayer are with all impacted by this tragedy.
