Loading day for us for the pigs was AWFUL. They would no go in their trailer and it took 6 adults to force our 500 lb Sal. It was the worst experience, never again lol

If you have no takers on the pigs, I would recommend selling what you have as whole, half, or quarter freezer campers to friends and family. You can skip the USDA that way and use a local guy I know or one you know. There are 2 local without huge backlog that could help alleviate the ongoing - or send em to market in Dryden...they would likely come pick them up!

So, I'm just curious what your return request is for anyone that would take you up on the farming / gardening offer of land. Are you just asking for so many pounds of meat in return if they do pigs so many pieces of produce? I'm just curious in case someone around here wants to do something like that
@Bmillsfarm9 ай бұрын
I’m asking nothing, Just the opportunity for someone to start farming. The value of community is priceless!

@@Bmillsfarm gotcha, here’s to hoping that isn’t the case. Had a scare with that not to long ago, turned out to be mycotoxins in the feed. I also switched from Farrowsure to L5E and Circo as boosters and have had more consistent results with my gilts.

I know the profit margin isn’t much with pork (we face the same issues in our market here in Ohio). From research it seems the grain to pork ratio has gotten this bad in the past, a bunch of ole timers bailed in the dip and those who stuck it out made a killing when it came back. We certainly don’t like to work for free but a 10-15% profit margin ($9300 to profit $1200) in the pork world is better than most right now. Commercial market guys are losing money per head. Soon the supply will dry up from everybody wanting to get out because there currently is no money to be made and the demand will still be there, leaving a whole for small guys like us to fill.

@Bmillsfarm10 ай бұрын

@keithburns303510 ай бұрын
@Bmillsfarm so I'm assuming your feeding the hog feed just a little FYI I feed my bigger pigs cracked corn and corn meal the only thing I feed there hog grain is to sows with piglets and piglets up to a 100lbs everyone else gets the cracked corn corn meal mix
@Bmillsfarm10 ай бұрын
Do you add additional minerals to that?
@keithburns303510 ай бұрын
@Bmillsfarm yes its a lot cheaper than the hog feed for sure trust me I know I have 80 pigs right now that I'm feeding so I find ways to make a cheaper feed bill lol

When we had been farming a couple of years, we decided to get into the "new" or "boutique" breeds of animals and we wasn't happy. We, like yourself, thought it would be fun to have them and everybody is going to want them but that wasn't the case. We finally sold and or eat all of them and went back to tried and true breeds and or crosses and we now enjoy farming again. I guess it's all a part of "Keep on Farming".
