Montgomery Clift died as a gay man. He probably never received the love of a female. Sad how some things repeat themselves to a T. Austin Sloper, the greatest. Speaks up to this day. Tells Catherine to watch out for the salesman waiting to collect his prize.

The first Hollywood post WW2 movie filmed on location in Germany & a vivid & a touching emotionally affecting experience it remains to this day, for me, anyway. This was Clift‘s first appearance on film although RED RIVER was actually filmed first but released after this one, I believe. I just watched Clift‘s 8 minute scene in JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG & comparing this with his work in THE SEARCH demonstrates his amazing versatility as an actor. I think he received Oscar nominations for both roles & the personality which he reveals in these contrasting characters is awesome to see. In the later film, when he was truly struggling with personal issues, the intensity he brings to his role is frightening to witness. What he accomplishes in those 8 minutes of film will stay with me forever.

Joe Dassin born and raised in US and even he went to US university, but his French was amazing, better than his English and someone who knew him told me that he could speak Hebrew.
