It's so stupid! We have 2 Goodwill's and they both did it. It came from corporate for the Sacramento greater valley or whatever our regional office is. I seriously just blow right by the clothes at our Salvation Army and the one in Carson City. I don't know how they think we have time to spend an hour going through multiple aisles. They have people standing around, doing nothing. I'll pay the extra 2 bucks to have it organized and brand new.

Well, I hate to say it, but it does actually make me feel better that you’re struggling this year too ;) I have some stuff I planted in like may that’s still 6” tall. It’s like right now mid August stuff is growing like I EXPECTED it to in spring. I made my own soil so can’t blame the rock place lol. It’s weird though because everything LOOKS great. Just doin nuthin. When you say ‘amaranth’ are you talking the small spinach stuff or the tall grain kind? I broadcast the grain everywhere multiple times, and got ONE plant. So discouraging!

Horrified that someone would voluntarily add plastic pollution to their soil. You should Google how that foam is made and what a forever chemical is. Leggy seedlings don't need anything fancy. They need more light.

@AmsNl2BcnEs
@AmsNl2BcnEs 9 ай бұрын
Packing foam is awful! Why oh why would anyone use plastic for this, the whole opportunity is to avoid pots and other plastic. This can be done with wax paper, parchment paper, and other eventually biodegradable widely available items. (Note there is some packing foam which is biodegrade cellulose, I respect that this exists, and whilst not plastic it is much more expensive than just using kitchen products like baking paper).
@HomesteadingHijinks
@HomesteadingHijinks 9 ай бұрын
I will get a minimum of 4 years out of this. The insulating factor of this foam is great for sprouting seeds earlier. I can't believe how fast my seeds have been sprouting. I think 4 years of use is amazing for recycling.
@AmsNl2BcnEs
@AmsNl2BcnEs 9 ай бұрын
@@HomesteadingHijinks not if people don’t already have such things to hand. Also it’s not food safe, plastics will leach into moist soil and into the plant (loads of research done confirming microplastics in plants as well as animals) so growing anything you plan to eat this way is not advisable.
@HomesteadingHijinks
@HomesteadingHijinks 9 ай бұрын
@@AmsNl2BcnEs well, to each their own. The plants will be in the ground long before they start fruiting. Microplastics can't be absorbed by roots. The molecules are too large. I hope you find a medium to your liking.
@AmsNl2BcnEs
@AmsNl2BcnEs 9 ай бұрын
@@HomesteadingHijinks that’s not correct about microplastics and roots, it has nothing to do with fruiting as the molecules will already be in the plant system and once in they basically don’t get excreted for lack of a better word except very slow partial lose through dropped leaves etc, but you seem to have made your decision.
