I was actually wondering how I had a surgery done, looked at the post surgery notes and found this position. Now, it makes sense. Very informative video. Thank you.

There's no dignity in healthcare. This video proves how much patients are humiliated. Doctors truly are cold and calloused.

How long can a patient be kept in the stirrups without doing nerve damage? And, can a surgeon be sued for causing nerve damage after having a patient in such a position long enough to cause nerve damage?

My understanding is that both legs should be moved intothe stirrups at exactly the same time to avoid damage to the patients hip and back
@buzzkill54802 жыл бұрын
Both legs at once is my understanding as well. And, is it my imagination or were the stirrups way too high?

I had a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy ten years ago and I was reviewing the surgeon report and came across with the term Lithotomy position. I found this very helpful video and also your comment has giving me an idea of why I have several issues with nerve pain, back and hip problems after the surgery. 🤔

Most of these procedures are done just to help the doctors they could really care less about a patient because if they told the patient what they had to do guaranteed most people would not get it done

Well, the doc can't do a vag hysterectomy, d&c, cysto, etc if they can't get between the legs.

@@ccoop3774 and, if you were the patient, wouldn't you be willing to suffer a degree of temporary discomfort so that the person operating on you has the easiest access?

@@coppulor6500 Well, I have been a patient in this position for a few surgeries. I have had a couple of cystos and a TLH (total laparoscopic hysterectomy.) The cystos I was awake for. I was quickly covered with blankets and drapes. I was also an OR nurse for years and knew the position I would be placed in. The surgeon and team have to be able to reach the operative site, right?
@coppulor65004 жыл бұрын
@@ccoop3774 exactly. People are naturally self-centered. That doesn't mean selfish, just that most people automatically consider how a situation is gonna affect themselves first. If I had to have some work done on my are or meat n taters and the expert surgeon required all his patients to wear a Nixon Mark a tutu and flippers in order for him to do his best work, guess what in wearing on choppy choppy day? This guy's time is worth at least $1000/HR and he's had years of training so guess who I'm humoring so he does the best possible job? So Patrick, you literally could not be more wronger. wrongerer. Lol. Although I agree with the first half of your sentence to a degree that a lot of surgery is necessary. Like spinal fusions. And they don't tell people enough about the pros and cons etc. On the other hand, given today's super easy access to info these days, there's far less excuse for someone to be clueless about a procedure they re considering
@suseq949 Жыл бұрын
@@ccoop3774. If you are awake they are more likely to get you covered up quickly. If under anesthesia, they can leave you naked without concern for your dignity.

Everything is done while the patient is asleep to avoid upsetting them with this. That includes giving them a sedative if they have a spinal. The sedative also causes the patient to not remember much of the surgery. I was told I asked "how's it going?" every now and then during my surgery but I don't remember it.
