The great Charles Mingus was not a member of the New York Bass Violin Choir but certainly would have fitted in effortlessly. I am the daughter of the pianist, Consuela Lee. Thanks for your response.

Thank you for this post. Professor Lee introduced me to the wonderful and challenging world of jazz piano. (Hampton University) It's so much easier listening to her. I'm very grateful for this clip. She was a brilliant musician with a "grand " heart. I would give a million dollars to spend just one more class with her. This clip is an unexpected gift.

I LOVED her very much. I was a student at Norfolk State University when she took me under her wing and allowed me to study under her. I learned a lot from her and went to college with the most talented people/musicians in the world. I thank GOD for allowing me to be in her presence.

I can also speak for the countless students that Aunt Consuela has trained over her many dedicated years, if I may. I can recall when it was my turn on those very same xylophones some 27 years ago when I was at SpringTree at Snow Hill! I became a student of the trumpet thanks to the love for music and art that was developed within me then. And I still have to go over to Aunt Consuela's piano every once in a while to be sure that I'm still in key!! And I am still learning...that equals proof of a legacy...

I studied piano under her tutelage in Virgina Beacb back in the early 80's. She was a wonderful lady, a great teacher and tremendous talent. I ran into Spike Lee, her nephew, on the streets of NYC a few weeks ago and learned of her death. I was heart broken in that I had wished to see her again. Heaven has another true natural talent.

God Bless you, Consuela Lee! She is an un-crowned queen of the piano and a true original, a pioneer. I hope she gets the recognition that a true genius deserves. I cannot sing her praises high enough. Incredible!
