Bought a battered old RG550 recently which came with some cheap pickups the previous owner put on. I’m upgrading with this exact combo! Thanks for the demo. Gives me reassurance that this is a good call.

Put some reverb and a slap back delay on top of that distortion, and you'd have a killer tone.

I have a JS32 DKA with the stock pickups. While they certainly aren’t terrible, to me the SD’s sound just a bit tighter and less fuzzy. I’m definitely going with a new set of SD’s or Dimarzios.

Great demo and great playing. And that Jackson Roads is awesome, I've been thinking of getting one. The Duncan Distortion sounds awesome. I've been a fan of that pickup since I began using one in the 80s. Is yours a Trembucker or regular spacing?

I was wondering because sometimes even TOM bridges require Trembucker spacing. I had a Yamaha Revstar that required Trembuckers and a Schecter with a TOM bridge that required regular spacing. One thing I've realized with mahogany is that it benefits from bright pickups like Distortions, JBs or Customs. I've been thinking of getting the Rhoads Jackson because it's available at a good price at my local Guitar Center and it's a good mod platform. I already own Duncan JBs, Distortions and Customs. What kind of amp did you use for this demo?@@stevedaigneault

I just bought a JS22 with Jackson pickups and I was shocked to hear how great the standard pickups sound. I was ready to order a Seymour Duncan set, but totaly changed my mind. Spend your money on the tuners, nuts, amps, mics etc. pickups are the last thing to put money on.

The stock LH-150s sounded good on their own, but the SD's had much more mid / upper clarity and bite, and less low end flabbiness, which became especially noticeable on the crunch tones. Overall, the SDs sounded super tight and punchy, but the LTD pickups are certainly no slouch, either, especially for the price :)

Great job 👏 Jackson Stock pickups are made by Belcat. They are okay. You can get them for 10-15 bucks. For the price I've been satisfied with Stock pickups, but the difference here is really notable. I was thinking SD Black Winters for my Jackson JS42 RR Rhoads Ziricote. Floyd has been upgraded already, but i hesitate with the electric works. Plus do i really need 500k pots?

lol they sound pretty close to being the same. remember you have nobs on the guitar and the amp eq ect.. plus effects. if you wanna spend more go right ahead. but I wont be changing original pick ups. buy another guitar if you dont like jackson. I love my Kramer, charvel, prs, grench,Ibanez, hagstrom, fender strat and les paul most of them have the original pups. sure I changed some like emg in the yamaha, or seymour Duncan invaders in my Ibanez to melt faces but the Jackson's on this are fine for what it's worth.

For those out there who cannot hear a real difference... the stock Jackson pickups are good but you will hear their weaknesses at full stage volume and even bedroom volumes depending on your equipment. I was originally hesitant to replace my stock Jackson Bridge pickup but eventually put in a Duncan JB and it made almost no difference, actually the JB sounded more brittle and sterile compared to the Jackson. On the other hand, I took out the JB and replaced it with a Duncan Distortion and now the guitar is a whole new animal and grew a set of balls very very quickly. This is a good comparison video but it doesn't really do it full Justice. In real life the real difference between these two pickups is that the Duncan Distortion that has more clarity and note to note definition, way tighter on the low end and definitely less harsh or shrill on the top end. More compressed and warmer... harmonic's will simply jump off of your fretboard with the Duncan Distortion while the Jackson pickup seemed to lack harmonic content. What's even better with the Duncan Distortion is that if you lower the pickup height a bit away from the strings, you will lose a little bit of output but will gain even more clarity I will lose some of that top-end fizz that some people may not like... run it through a tube screamer and you will get that awesome Midtone hump like a Duncan JB while maintaining a tight low-end from The Duncan distortion. So all in all my Jackson dinky went from "awesome" to... "holy shit awesome".. Duncan distortions all the way.
