I've got a couple of diode lasers, aiming for a CO2 next, but probably just a 60-80 watt to start. I'm going to try some experiments and see what I can do- I'm sure it'll take a lot longer, I've got a 10 and a 20 so I'll start small and see what I can do. I've gotten quite good with them over the last couple of Years, I think I can accomplish something like this. Heeeey, at least my cuts don't go too much slower! But I think Diodes are suppose to be quite good for cutting, which is most of what I do ;)

Thanks for the demo. I have two Epilog Fusions and pondering adding a Kern to the shop. 3D is a lot of fun and rewarding. Are .stl files used in your workstream? We used to use water for cleaning wood but warping was high risk. Surprised you recommend this post processing method. Also, doesn’t Kern have auto focus? What lens are you using for the demo? Kern or 3rd party? Thanks!
@Kernlasersystems7 ай бұрын
Hello! Any file type that you can get into CorelDRAW or Illustrator will work great for 3D. We use our post processor to export into our software as a .PDF file. Water works, but you need to use a minimal amount, otherwise you will get warping. There are other ways to clean them out that do not include water. Kern does have auto-focus. For engraving we generally use a 2.5" FL lens in our own lens assembly. I hope this answer your questions!

Could you do thiscwith a 50 w machine?
@Kernlasersystems10 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. If you have the right software and system, you would be able to do this with a low-wattage laser tube 30w to 50w would work fine, but you would have to go really slow to produce the depth. our lowest wattage is 100w (traveling about 10 to 15 inches per second, at 80% power.)

One the one that cut through, does it defocus so much that it doesn't cut into that back side or you just can't see any burn marks inside? How many watts to cut through an inch of pumpkin? 🎃
@Kernlasersystems Жыл бұрын
If you look closely there is some burning of the interior opposite side. However, the beam is defocused and wouldn't have enough power to cut through. You can cut this with a 100W laser!

@Kernlasersystems Жыл бұрын
Yes, we do need 70% power. Aluminum is very reflective to laser energy and requires more power than a metal like steel.

@Kernlasersystems6 ай бұрын
Yes the video is real-time speed. To get the engraving depth you are limited by the lase wattage well before you are limited by speed of the machine. So, if you use a larger laser (500W, 650W) you could increase your speed and maintain the same engraving depth.

Hi I wonder what are the cons and pros of CO2 vs Fiber lasers in regards to cutting thin sheet metal (1.5mm of stainless and carbon steels). In terms of precision, cost of machine and lifespan of tube/lasersource. Is there some comparison that can be looked at? Thx
@Kernlasersystems Жыл бұрын
Hello Anton, the short answer is... if you want to just cut metal then the fiber laser systems will offer greater cutting ability and speed when compared directly to our CO2 lasers. However, if you also want to cut organics like wood, plastic, foam , etc. then our CO2 laser is probably a better fit. In regards to 1.5mm stainless and carbon steel, our 500W and 650W CO2 lasers would cut these metals very nicely. However, the speed of cut with our 1kW fiber will be roughly 1.5 - 2 times faster. If you want to talk about this more in detail please feel free to call us toll free at 1-888-660-2755. Thank You!
