Where you stake the front two stakes together, in fall like weather, stake them about a foot apart, the door is much easier to get gear thru, and when you stake the door back to the side, you’ll have a gap area at the bottom of the door for ventilation. Great series, keep giving us cool ideas!!! 👍👍

Brother how did you learn this, or do you just try things out?
@AdventureswithMud4 күн бұрын
Over the last 5 years, I've been learning these shelters through others , even here on KZbin. I like to then play around with each shelter to see what I can do with them. Try to find little tricks and tips to help make them quick and easy to set up. Along the way, new ones come out of just having fun. Mix and match aspects of different shelters. After seeing the Tarp Tent configuration years ago for the first time, I was intrigued and have been hooked on tarpology ever since. I absolutely love the versatility, as you don't always know the terrain you will be camping on. Amazing how a simple tarp can give you so many options
@robopam4 күн бұрын
Do you have a link for that tarp? The one I have is lightweight and strong but doesn't have a center tie out.
@AdventureswithMud4 күн бұрын
This tarp is made by Free Soldier , it is the 10 x10 ft or 3 x3 meter. It can be found on Amazon for 40 US dollars. I have been pleased with this budget tarp. Currently I have my eye on the Texas Bushcraft 10 x10 ft tarp , also on Amazon for 90 dollars.
@ThomasSpearman-g3y4 күн бұрын
10' x 10' tarp? lately I've been experimenting with a 10' x 12' tarp using the extra 2' as a ground sheet. Of course it's just as easy to bring a lightweight ground sheet. I've got so many tarps I don't know what to do with them all.
@AdventureswithMud4 күн бұрын
Yes, I am using the 10 x10. I do like the size overall, perfect for 1 person and sometimes 2, depending on configuration. The rectangle tarp does open options for the ground sheet that you can't get with the square. Personally, I like having a light weight tent footprint. It makes me nervous laying on my tarp. I always feel like I might punch a hole in it. With many tarps, you build Megatron Shelter, 😁. I built a 15 ft diameter tipi that was about 10 ft tall ,using 3 bigger rectangle tarps. Lots of fun! Setup 2 cots and a double bed in there. Family had a great time that year when they came to visit

Great idea for me & “urban stealth shelter” but I don’t have a 10’ x 10’ tarp but a 5’ x 8” so maybe I’ll try to make a similar version without the ground sheet???
@AdventureswithMud13 күн бұрын
Nice, yeah, im sure you can pull off something similar with a 5x8. That would be interesting and fun to do. I have played around with rectangle tarps , but it has been a little while since I picked up the 10x10. Have fun 😁 👍

@AdventureswithMud I found my 6’8” x 7’6” USMC Woodland MARPAT tarp in perfect condition, maybe it’ll work for a smaller version (I don’t want to keep buying tarps lol) so I’ll give that a try also! Thanks again!

@ AdventureswithMud Asymmetrical Holden I’ve used with my smaller tarp, poncho from another video Have you tried it or have a video to show how to set up because it’s smaller & lower for limited tarps/ poncho size that’ll work for some? Plow point is also my other small use shelter (any other choices?) Thanks & I’ve subscribed from the first video of yours!
@AdventureswithMud11 күн бұрын
@IAMGWH1 I haven't done a video on the Holden pitch yet, but that is a great simple shelter for the bag of tricks. I've seen a lot of bushcrafters use that pitch. The plow point is definitely one of my favorite, so easy and great cover even with small tarps and ponchos. You would probably like the Tetra Wedge, my most recent tarpology video. With your larger rectangle tarp, probably give best results, but could make a variation of it with the smaller one. You have definitely peaked my interest in playing around more with a smaller rectangle tarp, my poncho would be closest thing I have at moment. Time to have some fun with it.Thank you so much for your continued support, very much appreciated my friend

What’s your best advice on getting over the fear of sleeping with bugs and the risk of snakes and/or insects crawling in your stuff while asleep? I was this close 👌🏼 to switching over to tarp camping, losing the tent. However, while out on trail a buddy of mine had a June bug crawl in his ear and it ended our adventure. Been in fear ever since. Any help will help!
@AdventureswithMud17 күн бұрын
Man ,sorry to hear that for your buddy. Hope all went ok. As far as snakes go ,in all my camping adventures since I was a kid, I can't say I've ever had any in camp. So I usually don't think about them. For the bugs I've been using the Snugpak Jungle Bag with built in mosquito net. That sleeping bag alone takes away my worry about anything getting in. It does take a moment to get used to being all zipped up in it, though. You could wear a bug net around your head to keep them out of your face and ears. There are some bug nets on the market as well, that can be used universally in many tarp shelters, either by using trekking poles or ridgelines. I have thought about one of the bug nets ,but I have been really enjoying the jungle bag so far, works for me. Hope this helps out

Always enjoy your camps. Thanks for taking us along. Love your setup and meal selection. Easy, tasty and filling. Those MSS bivies are the best! I use mine all year except on super hot summer nights. And usually, if it’s that warm, I’m not trying to camp overnight anyway. Because I’d much prefer trying to get warm in the cold, than trying to cool off in a sweaty hot shelter. Looking forward to your next adventure! Best to you from Indiana.
@AdventureswithMud25 күн бұрын
Thank you for coming along with the adventure! I love my MSS bivy , and also always take it out. I'd rather have it and not need it than the other way around. Same as my woobie, haha. I agree, some of those hot nights can be a bit miserable. This time of year is great for getting out and getting some of those perfect nights . I hope I can enjoy as many as possible before it really gets cold. I am going to look at the intermediate sleeping bag for the MSS system, see what kinda deal I can find. Try to push my season further.
@HuntCreekBushcraft25 күн бұрын
@AdventureswithMud… thank you for your reply. I hope you can find an intermediate bag to pair with your bivy. It makes such a huge difference in the number of times you can actually camp comfortably in the year. I was able to find a good deal on eBay and got mine there. I had to be patient though to get one reasonably priced in nice condition. I paid less than $70 for it shipped and I think that’s because the seller wasn’t specializing in military surplus. And I tell you what… I absolutely love that bag! It’s surprisingly roomy and very warm without being a hot pocket. And the best thing is by just using it and my bivy (no patrol bag), I can sleep comfortably down into the low 20s with no other source of heat. And if my nose gets cold the bag has a built in baffle at the collar or I can put on a balaclava. Good stuff. Hope you’re able to get one.
@AdventureswithMud25 күн бұрын
@HuntCreekBushcraft that's a great price you found, definitely hope I can find one at least in that range. Very good to hear temp range and roomy. Some of those mummy bags can be really restrictive. Thanks for sharing your experience with one, makes me feel better about going that route 👍

Thank you so much for your continued support, much appreciated, my friend . I totally agree , I definitely could have dressed better and made a different shelter for the evening. But I wanted to push the limits a bit just to know. The snugpak jungle bag is rated at 45 degrees for comfort, even though I was in bivy bag as well , when it dropped under 45 I was starting to feel the chill. Including the woobie helped a bunch ,especially when it dropped into the 30's. Dressing in some good base and mid layers ,I feel pretty confident I could take this system into freezing temps. I'm excited to take it to the next level now.

@AdventureswithMudАй бұрын
That was another tasty meal. 😋 I will be doing that one again for sure. Yes temps are cooling quickly, already had to build a fire or two in the cabin. I'll test this system some more with better cold weather layers and keep the woobie in there as well. See how much further I can take it, before adding another bag to the mix. This was a good test for initial boundaries.

I think your sleeping system is decent for the winter, but for a light weight minimalist sleep system I think that wearing the proper winter gear is necessary for a person to get a somewhat comfortable night's sleep. I didn't see you add the woobie into your sleep system before you went to bed. Was the woobie added as well?
@AdventureswithMudАй бұрын
I did add the woobie at 1 AM when I woke up chilly and that helped out quite a bit. If I tied it all around my sleeping bag that probably would've been a little bonus. I agree big time some better winter base layers and mids will take me several degrees lower. Overall I'm pretty happy with the system since I wasn't dressed as well.
