I find that those picture jasper have very interesting designs. I like them a lot. However I don't usually get a high shine from them. Rather they end up pitted and with a dull shine. Did yours turn out this way also?
@Heathersrocks7 күн бұрын
Mine took a good enough polish. Not great like agates and quartz do, but good enough for Jaspers. I post all of my rock tumbling videos on reels, but not KZbin because of the under 1 minute limitation for shorts. But it looks like they increased it to 2 minutes now and I’ll start uploading those videos soon which will have the final results.

Do you keep your dirt like I do? I have been dry tumbling to crush up all my leaves in my years, so I can have some homemade dirt, creating it faster than nature would naturally.

Fairly new to tumbling and only done a couple runs using the generic tumbling grit. Can you please tell me what the powdered detergent is used for? Would soda ash work as well?

3 seconds in, the green thing- WHAT IS THAT?! I love old glass. I have three of these exact things and have zero idea what they are. Two still have this textured rubber(?) band around the lil nubby thing on the bottom. Anyone have any idea?!

I love rainbow obsidian. I bought about 10 kg of it off eBay a couple years ago and still haven’t done very much with it. Most of what I ended up getting might be better described as “banded” but there are some good chunks where the colors really do pop out. For the banded stuff, my thought is to make pendants and earrings from thinner slices so the transparent parts really stand out. Edit to add one thing I noticed when I used a metal strainer is that it can sometimes scratch up the finished pieces or otherwise leave metallic marks on them. I switched to using a plastic strainer that came in a salad spinner but a plastic colander would be another option.

Before I was born, my brother's favorite toy was a rock tumbler. I remember my mom talking about it. He was 14 when I was born, and your videos remind me of him. He's been gone for 26 years. Thanks for helping me remember.
