I understand her frustration. She simply hasn’t learned how to style and care for her hair yet. All she needed was one of those drawstring bands to make a puff…there are items and products out there to help us learn. KZbin has a WEALTH of videos showing how to style natural hair at ALL lengths🤷🏽‍♀️ invest some time in learning. Ps- I love love love how you say “Cuuute!” That is the cutest❤❤

This is a very western black problem, because all of the millions of women in the Caribbean and Africa are they really out here crying about their hair?? Her problem to begin with is thinking her hair isn’t “presentable” in its natural state.

My first reaction was honestly why are we falling over to present ourselves to ONE WHITE MAN who just said “I lyk curlz”. We need to decenter desperately rather than do the most to be picked especially by YT men, 4CPride ✊

She’s absolutely beautiful ❤. She can always get a slight fade, go a little lower on the side, that’s a cute style. Use oils on her scalp that helps to soften her hair. She can rock Bantu knots, cornrows, twist outs, or moisten and go. She definitely needs a quality satin bonnet. So many options. I love my natural hair and I’ve done all I’ve suggested. Now I’ve been rocking braids in all variety of colors. Being Black is a beautiful ❤🎉

I never wore a wig or weave in my life and my hair almost touches my butt. I think it's about time we learn to ditch these costly Asian wigs and learn to care of our hair. I keep hearing it's "protective style" but if that was the case you'd expect these women who've been wearing wigs for years to be walking around with floor length hair. But it seems a lot of our women are just putting a mask on their insecurities and neglecting to care for what's underneath, to the point they don't know what to do with it once the wig comes off. Sadly, i see this in my everyday life, whether i'm at work or out and about. Rarely do i see our girls embracing their natural hair.

The first girl could just put on some cute headbands and leave it out like that in it's natural state. And put some pretty pins or clips in it, it's short and cute enough to play around with hair pieces. That's what I would do at least

I apologize for the long post, but I have so many thoughts on this. I try not shame people’s hair journey. We don’t truly know texture or condition of this young lady’s hair to even know whether all the suggestions in the comments are useful for her. A picture only tells so much. Not everyone can do frequent wash and gos and not experience tangles/breakage, and not all of those people want to get locs as an alternative, which is often a common suggestion when people with certain hair textures (cough cough 4c) complain about managing their hair. Also, part of beauty is experimentation and self-expression through adornment and modification. Black women shouldn’t be shamed for wanting options outside of their natural hair in its purely, shrunken, unstyled state. This is not anti-black. The diaspora has a rich history of natural hair styled in intricate hairstyles. Not everyone has the patience or skill to manage all aspects of their haircare, but this is what many black women are forced to do out of necessity. And no, it’s not necessarily easy to care for hair. If it were so easy, then stylists/beauticians wouldn’t exist, and there wouldn’t be a whole industry dedicated to teaching the trade. Depending on where you live, it may difficult to find a component natural hair stylist with affordable prices. This is part of the reason why DIY is such a huge part of the natural hair community and why we even have natural hair influencers in the first place. So no, black women aren’t crazy or self-hating when they discuss their struggles managing their natural hair. A lot of the frustration you hear some naturals expressing would stop if there were better options for professional natural hair styling.

She’s an African Nigerian woman not a Black woman. Stop lumping us into the same “Race” box by calling every melanated woman from around the world “Black”. Race isn’t Real and it’s an American Social Construct that was invented in America not for the whole world. And the term (Sudan) is for Sudan people & their country not the whole world. So don’t try to translate that Sudan word into the English language to make it mean the same as us in America. We are Not the same. Our English term (Black) was specifically placed upon our Black American people in our country America not the world.

↪️ She didn't prepare her hair beforehand it looks like she's coming out of the shower so of course she's going to feel rushed and overwhelmed... She should have styled her hair in the eve or done African threading for her hair to be detangled and softer. ↪️I feel a bit bad for her but at the same time there are plenty of YT tutorials for "short/awkward" stage length now... ↪️I'm glad she's trying something and not putting somebody else's hair on ↪️@08:00 Love what she's doing to her hair

Some of these stitches and some of these comments under this video are so cringe. They don't see them in the wild because the majority of curly haired girls straighten their hair. And in the wild most black people wear weaves, wigs, and braids so... Anyway, I don't identify with the word curly. My hair is coily or kinky coily if you prefer.

They serve a community that is poor (you can look up the statistics) yet charge luxury prices that they cannot afford. Or they'd have to cut out actually necessities to afford getting their hair done which is not a necessity. Yet this same community has super high standards when it comes to not having your hair done + people afraid of wearing or even hate their natural hair so they need to get expensive styles like braids and sew ins (although honestly a lot of salons take advantage of the fact that a lot of these people don't know how to care for their own hair so they charge people an arm and a leg for basic easy services such as a wash n go).

I definitely don’t miss all the crying from trying to figure out what to do with my natural hair. Taking 3-4 hours to do a style for it to only last 2-3 days was so exhausting . I relaxed my hair and I’m so happy I did. I finally get approached by men again too. I’ve accepted that natural hair isn’t for everybody.

When your natural hair is longer, you're either going to make peace with stretching it or chop it all off. Not stretching it is a recipe for tangles and body aches from trying to work through the tangles. I keep mine stretched and I keep my salon appointment. People make entire careers out of doing hair, but that's not my path. My hair can be a job, but it sure won't be my job. Find peace and choose it.

I think it’s all to feel validated. Trust me no matter what race, if you end up with the wrong guy, validation should be the last of your concerns. Being with someone you mutually love beyond what race you are is important. I mean if you’re into white guys, that’s fine but stop treating attracting them as a flex on how pretty you are. If you’re pretty, you’ll attract anyone. Like can we stop using white guy’s attention as proof of our beauty?

The problem is shes tryna style it like a white girl, or the styles that r exceptable here. You have to except it for what it can do. And dont let anyone tell u its ugly in that style. Our hair is different meaning we have to style it different.our hair is so versatile we canform it shape it we can basically make it do anything.

When white men talk about curly hair they 100% mean type 3 hair or wavy hair! And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that but if they’re looking for 4C hair, they will say “4C hair” or “coily hair” and that’s just straight facts💯😂

I honestly found my natural hair to be easiest as a TWA. Just had to moisturize it and 2 minutes later I was done! If you're having an issue with shape/uniformity, cut it into an intentional shape that feels more flattering for your face/head shape. I also find earrings and makeup choices can help create more balance if for some reason you feel like shorter hair isn't the most flattering with your features. More than anything I think having your hair very short is an adjustment at first. You're not used to seeing your face that big and bold, lol. But eventually you'll get used to it and start focusing on the best way to make your face shine, and that's when fun begins!

Let me be honest with you African ladies. You’re seeking validation from white women. The remarks l heard were condescending. Because y’all put all your business out there everyone is aware of your hair issues. The poor soul on the video considers straight hair “presentable” because she works around white women all day. I wish l knew what to say to help many of you build some self esteem. No one has perfect hair! A great majority of women work at managing their own texture of hair. All the videos African women watch are usually not beneficial for them emotionally, mentally or psychologically. What’s the point of drooling over Hermela Solomon’s videos because she’s of African descent (and darkskin) when she has a thick head of rapidly growing type 3 hair? 😳

I think the main take away is the MINDSET. That’s the part that hurt me so bad. I kept thinking my natural hair was so childish looking and I wanted to look more feminine, grown & sexy. It wasn’t until i kept getting mistaken for looking older with my weaves (not in a good way) did it start to click. Your natural hair IS YOUR BEAUTY & YOUTH!..which is the #1 thing women are obsessed with. It took time for me to get it an appropriate moisture level but once I did, I started wearing it in a wash-n-go daily and haven’t looked back. The trick is if you feel confident In you hair, so will everyone else. Everyone else can also sense when you’re insecure about your hair as well…

I think it was misunderstood because he said "natural." I never heard white girls use the term natural. He actually meant naturally curly for his particular type not black women. I've heard white girls say their hair is naturally curly but they prefer it straight. Now that's the language he probably grew up around.
