@@betweenthebluffs9690 Yea technically because pike can carry parasites everything I've read recommends freezing for at least 48 hours to kill them before consumption. The pickling process itself will not kill these parasites since it's not actually "cooking". You're probably fine, but definitely recommend it for future batches.

Hey, They are littered in the backwaters, just have to find them. From my experience they are outside backwater channels where there is little to no current. Also big mud flats where these smaller channels run through. Lake onalaska is a good example near lacrosse Wisconsin. Lots of area to search but once found can be magical.

Reminds me of when my dad took me ice fishing as a kid, probably about the same age as your youngster. I am so grateful he took the time to teach me the outdoor sports. I want to find a place on the river to fish too, don’t know where to begin!

Kind of hard to explain.. 2x2 for the stakes, ‘peeled reed fencing’ from Menards and plastic poultry netting attached all together with zip ties. Super cheap portable panel blind! I also brush it in a little once set.
