Hello, I am 25 years old and I am from the Outer Banks. I cut grass by myself for a living but I cant seem to get settled anywhere. All of the housing is turning into airbnbs in the summer and I now have to live / work out of my truck. Its very hard. Food is way too expensive and even if i find a place to live its like 1000$ a month in rent. I have lawncare and construction tools (lawnmower, weedwacker, backpack blower, boxes of power tools (drills and saws)) and I think I could be very good help for you guys. I am tired of living like this. I am broke but I will work to live with you guys. I have no family to help me, no friends, nothing. My dream since a kid was always to live in the mountains away from so many people and learn how to survive in the woods/bushcraft. I would very very much appreciate an opportunity with you guys and can talk over the phone with you if you want. My number is 252-401-3437 Looking forward to a reply Thanks -Brian

I am the volunteer librarian at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh. Listening to your podcast has prompted me to decide to create an emphasis in our library on reading North Carolina authors during the summer. Is there a list of all the authors you plan to feature? I want to be sure we have books by all the authors if I am going to promote your initiative. I am a Virginian and I’m finding this very exciting. I’m sure I will learn a lot about North Carolina authors. Thank you.

Hi Betty! So glad your'e listening! We'll be speaking with Lee Smith in May (the episode with her will release tomorrow). In June we will speak to Jill McCorkle. In July we will feature Kristy Woodson Harvey. And in August we will speak to Ron Rash. We're still working on the lineup after that. You can read more about the podcast and any live events here: www.ourstate.com/bookclub/

Grew up living at and enjoying the "Crystal Coast". Big Oak came along later but we were glad to see it! It's concept was borrowed from El's in Morehead City. Either El's or Big Oak will do the trick. Don't forget the hushpuppies and if you want a genuine NC southern style burger, both also have great ones, I prefer El's for the hamburger, burger...slaw, chilli, onion, mustard

I love the old Our State shows. The new ones suck so badly, they have to show the Best of Our State. The audience of the show does not care about wineries, art and more Wineries and more art. The ones of the past few years are not relevant to the watcher.

Hey @chiefcaptainmoroni1, You should check out some of the other videos on our KZbin channel. We recently featured the stories of Southern Supreme Fruitcakes (a family owned business), Merlefest, the Pickle Drop (a quirky event in Mount Olive) and much more! We've also featured veteran stories, farmer stories and maker stories. Let me know if you'd like some links. Feel free to drop some comments on what you think we should cover in the future! We'd love to hear your suggestions.
