If the place teaches good driving culture and has quality built roads, when yeah, the no speed limit highway is ok. But where I'm from there would be cars flying one direction and their suspensions other.

In theory you can. But americans don't normally understand, that there's plenty of speed limited autobahn and once you hit a spot without a speed limit, you can be certain, that there is someone on the very left lane, who just refuses to go above 75mph. But in theory - if you were alone at this piece of autobahn, it would be unrestricted.
@autolytic
@autolytic 14 күн бұрын
Don't ruin my dreams! 😂 but in all seriousness it is interesting that outside of Germany the autobahn isn't very well understood. I'd wager a lot of Americans think the autobahn is one road that has no speed limit anywhere, and you pretty much need to be a car nerd to know it's a whole highway system where the only no limit areas are out in the open areas

Autobahn truly is great, but it's only in safe areas, with well-kept roads, surveillance and mostly skilled responsible drivers (not a lot of people go full-speed). Something USA lacks.

I agree most highways get the speed limit ignored up to a certain point, but there's nowhere you can drive at 110+ knowing you won't be pulled over. That's what's really different about the autobahn I feel

I don't think an autobahn would work in america as well because it's relatively safe in germany because driving licenses are much harder to get there but in america they allow most people to get drivers licenses with lower effort
@autolytic

I agree. Even basic "stay right unless to pass" highway etiquette isn't really followed by a lot of US drivers which would not mesh too well with 100+ mph...

I want to dispute this, I really do, but I can't cuz it's true. In 2020 when the disease hit, everyone who applied immediately got their license with none of the formal classes and training that were usually required. I have never been more pissed at the government than when I learned that.

The C8 Corvette ZR1 definitely counts as a supercar if you go by 200+ mph top speed as the requirement to count, it can do 215. And it will get there quicker than most other supercars too.

I'm somewhat of the opposite. I think the term "supercar" is now moreso concerned with crazy exotic cars that might not be as good on a track. Like a 488 would be considered a supercar but it might lose to a Z06 on track.

@@autolytic fair enough. i guess there's not really a perfect metric for when a car becomes a supercar, so 200 mph is as good a qualifier as i can think of. and faster than I'd ever want to go in a car.

@@autolytic Subaru tested manuals they had access to during it's day, didn't last long during testing. Kept eating clutches if I remember correctly, even during the most gentle of driving. Something like 5-10k miles, which is unacceptable. Nowadays you can just shove an WRX transmission in it and call it a day, but at the time of it's design the SVX was the most powerful car Subaru had ever made in mass production. (Debuted at the Tokyo Auto Show in "89, released in 91, a year before the first WRX was released.) By the time they had better transmissions, they were already pulling the plug on the SVX due to lackluster sales because of it's high price tag of $36k (Almost $85k in today's money!)

I think custom tuning has its place for less supported platforms/more unique builds, but OTS tuning is a great way to have a safe and proven power bump without needing to dyno/log. It's become a lot easier to buy an OBD reader and flash at home which also hurts custom tunes
@turbochargers7841

Stages are a set of mods that dumb people can buy. The reason it’s in stages is because you need stage 1 before you can go to stage 2, etc. so that’s how they do it, usually stage 1 is a cold air intake and a tune, stage 2 is usually bolt ons like downpipe/exhaust, PCV reroute. Stage 3 is usually larger intake pipes, bov recirc, bigger turbo, bigger injectors, dyno tuning. Stage 4 is tearing out the engine and fitting forged internals to squeeze maximum power with minimal risk
