KINDLY go read the words of the country's greatest anthropologist, Daisy Bates who gave much of her life to the study of Aboriginal people and who actually lived much of her life with them all about the country in the early 1900's... Read her writings. (What you can find of them as sadly much has been cancelled). Secondly and the very same applies to the author Patrick White who was awarded a Nobel Prize for Literature. He too has spoken of so many years of his experiences in the heart of the country and written much on what he saw and learned. But again much has been cancelled and I can only assume its because it does not fit 'today's narrative'... The easiest way to get people on board, is to tell them nice things and then to point the finger at other things and say that they are not nice.

I am quite saddened by some comments. After extensive reviewing (not just a 5 minute google search), I can conclude that while Pascoe does have some dents in his book, but the main message remains constant. Most of the literary criticisms have been made by unreliable sources or (with a bit of backtracking) people of whom have conservative ideologies which reveal a clear agenda to disprove. Aboriginals were indeed to a good extent more than hunter-gathers, just not seen that way relative to the Eurpoean definition of a "farming society"

Themeda triandra makes up the huge grasslands of the south it was never farmed there is no evidence other than one historical footnote and map which Bruce re drew to suit his argument just like his aboriginal heritage? It’s a shame Bruce Koori and white fellas would of respected you energy interests and passion if you’d just not lied, then after a few years of research not only have I found your heritage is a lies but you’ve completely misrepresented the words of almost all the historical figures you reference a real fraud

It’s a shame aboriginal culture didn’t record any of there “amazing” achievements in their history books. Now all we get is these white skinned “aboriginals” talking about what supposedly went on as if they were there

If you knew an ounce of their culture then you'd know that Aboriginals convey most of their messages through oral tradition. Very few things were documented and even those were in the forms of paintings. They saw no need to document the way other societies did As for the skin colour thing. If you payed attention in high-school, it's just genetics. If a white person and aboriginal person have a child, there is a chance that child will indeed be white or a light brown.

What Aboriginal agriculture? Aboriginal peoples collected seeds from Kangaroo Grass in times before the British arrived. Such grass is common in many parts of the world. In both India and Africa it is called 'famine grass' something you eat when there is no other choice. Why would that be? For one thing, it is low in nutrition compared to other seeds/grains and also, the seed yield is low. Australia offered fewer alternatives before the British arrived with their grains. Some Aboriginal tribes collected yams and some planted yam fields. All primitive peoples collected yams and planted yam fields where they existed. This knowledge has existed in many parts of the world throughout human existence. How is any of that agriculture? All stone-age peoples, Europeans, Asians, Africans, Polynesians collected seeds, grains and ground them between stones, mixed it with water and tossed it on the fire. Agriculture is when humans plant and farm and harvest crops. Something else to remember, Kangaroo Grass requires fire to survive and thrive. And as we strive to prevent bushfires it means that such a low-nutrition plant has little future.

@@wally1166 Mate, all stone-age peoples burned. The Europeans, Asians, Africans did it. Nothing exceptional about burning the bush, forest or wood. Homo Sapiens are estimated to have been in Asia 120,000 years ago and in Europe and Australasia about 40,000 years ago. They all did the same things. Instinct, need, stupidity, survival.... nothing which even equated to what we call management.

@@wally1166 Oh please, let us inhabit reality. Aboriginal stone-age peoples in times past set fire to the bush to kill and scare out game. The fire burned until it ran out of fuel or it rained. All stone-age peoples did the same thing. I am sure they lit such fires some distance from their huts. However, such primitive practices are hardly relevant in a modern, highly urbanised society. As to bush management, the Europeans quickly worked out what needed to be done and the fact that fuel reduction practices have not happened in recent times is because of pressure from fanatical environmentalists. What indigenous people? Which tribe? The 100% ones or the less than 1% ones descended from mostly middle class urban Anglo-Europeans? Yeah sure, bet they know heaps.
