Nothing beats the sense of occasion and the obvious history of the English fa cup final..the over hyped finals of the euros, champions league and World Cup seem almost unimportant because they’re built up too much: abide with me is beautiful.. and the most perfect time of year, as it’s spring, summer is around the corner… the best weekend sporting occasion was the fa cup semifinals , the grand national and the final round of the masters ❤❤❤… sporting heaven🙏🏾

If it would have been played today there would have been around five a side left on the pitch but there wasn't a real nasty challenge at all , great days sadly gone forever

Wimbledon hassled a very good Everton side out of their stride that day. They were lucky with the penalty though. That was soft.

One of my favorite moments as a Pompey fan - though I watched the game through hazy eyes in Amsterdam. Bits and bobs is all. Bloody good weekend that! PUP! 🔵⚪️

This was the game in which the FA decided that no FA Cup semi-final should ever be held without fences from that time on. Arsenal refused to install fencing and Everton fans took massive liberties that day. Unfortunately, that led directly to Hillsborough. So you could say that Everton were significantly responsible for what happened in 1989.

Liverpool could not cope with the Dons that day. Have to hand it to Wimbledon - they wanted it more and fought harder. End of story.

The sight of near enough all the Newcastle fans in replica shirts was incredible. First time I can remember seeing that at Wembley. So sad that the lads couldn't bring the cup home that day. Anyway thanks for posting.

When football was a contact sport, And though the pitches were often in bad condition, the football technique was good, nowadays football pitches are like billiard tables and Footballers from all around the globe play ,but the element of contact sport has made football a horrible watch of gamesmanship and light weight excuses to collapse on the floor holding the legs ,looking to get players booked ,or to win a free kick

Great for uploading!! I remember watching this when I was in year 9 at school on the match of the day highlights that midweek! Loved the game, searched loads to find the match of the day commentary & here it is! Good old John Motson! Scouser & Liverpool fan but love seeing these old clips that takes me back to when football was raw & real! Miss the baseball ground, what a cracking stadium! The good old days

What a great FA cup game. One of many I saw as a lad at Wrexham. Cold day, hard pitch, difficult to play on. Blyth fought so well for part timers. Wrexham had about 6 welsh internationals in the team and Dixie McNeil, what a player, what a great team.

When Pompey scored the terrace cleared in front of me! Stood at back going mental with a few others that didn't disappear. Great scenes you can't get now with all seaters. How far did the ref put our wall back?!! We all knew it was going in but not via the post. A great day and so close again in the replay.
