It seems no one is talking about this speech anymore, but I wanna talk a little bit. Well, maybe not a little bit, because there are a LOT to say. I am from Turkey and to be honest I've never met any Syrians before. I am not sure but probably, Turkey is "the most refugee accepted" country. It's about 3 millions, I guess. Now, some people say we can't take all of them in. You're right, because you can't imagine how many Syrian refugees caused crimes or raped girls. But on the other hand, there are some people who are really helpless and truly desperate. If you're escaping from war, I really don't expect to see an iPhone in your hand. First of all, there must have been an elemination. You don't want all of them in your country, I understand that, but why wouldn't you accept 'some' of them? When you do it I know the group that you're gonna accept, the ones who are educated very well. Everybody is thinking of themselves and no one is going to give their hand. Just for once, try not to forget even if they're educated or not, as Benedict said they all are humans just like you and me. They have mothers, fathers, daughters and sons. You say "help your people first + if you wanna help take a few family as guests in your mansion" COME ON, WOULD YOU DO THAT TO BRITISH FAMILIES? No you wouldn't. And that's not what he's talking about. Yeah he may be unreachable, out of normal people's touch and very rich, but just like you and me he has a heart too and he also donates for them. Stop blaming him for your own mistake, which is being f*cking heartless. I am not telling you to be stupid and accept all the refugees, no one can but stop being like this. We forget that we all are humans. Whoever we are, we're all the same in this world. Now, it's the very first day of 2019, and there's still a war in Syria. See, it's been years. And believe me you wouldn't help or f*cking get anything just by sitting on your comfortable chair and write "it's easy for him to say this". I read the comments and started to cry, I know if there were a war in Turkey none of you would accept me and I could die with a sniper shot. Sorry for my English, I am only 15. But that's what the world is, in 2019. Thank you all.

Sad that this post seems to have been taken as an excuse to air racist and xenophobic views. Given the wholesale terror, theft, rape and destruction of people and natural resources that we in the West have visited on the wider world for the last 500 years or so, and continue to do on a daily basis, how can we act surprised if the people we have terrorised and exploited ask for a modicum of recompense? Whatever the terrorised and brutalised ask of us, we owe them tenfold.

"Noone puts their child in a boat if the land is safer than the water" Unfortunately except the famous child who drowned. He and his parents were already safe in Turkey. But the parents just wanted to live better. They are not all refugees fleeing from war. It is time we made a distinction.

i dont know how or why i found this video. but just wanted to ask after 4 years do you still have the same mindset for the ukrainian refugees as well. they should just be in poland. right?? here is a shade of light on this subject. turkey alone is home to about 4M refugees right now. its not about living better, its to live. Turkey can't alone help all this 4M people, it should be obvious. the people who cant get any start decide to change places. if they dont find food, place to stay or earn anything how do you expect them to survive/live?? its not like people who invaded their country or started the war to make profit from it gonna help them. or the international community gonna donate them all their life. is it? like the example you used. if they wanted to live better only his father would have decided to do the journey then work hard, earn some money and after all that would have brought his family. safely. there have been more than 10M refugees just from middle east. barely 2M middle eastern refugees live in europe and Germany alone took 1M syrians. most of the wars in middle east is going for 10 years. meanwhile we living in war free countries are questioning what we doing with our lives and started getting depressed just by living in 2 years of covid. imagine their life then.

@@rihadalif What about Ukrainian refugees? We take them in like the rest of the refugees. Being a refugee from a wartorn country VS being an illegal immigrant are different things but hard to distinguish in practice. Are you for the free travel of any person to any country? AKA no borders? I am not for that. Because it is not sustainable. I voted for parties that would not invade, so do not blame me for that. Lastly when there were wars here wr fought and died to be free.

@@darkfoxjj at this moment you are contradicting your own values. 😅😅 syrian, iraqis are refugees as well. but 4 year before you said they aren't. lol. similarly ukranians should also be deemed as illegal immigrants if they dont just stay in poland but decide to move inwards. are you from uk?? cause currently uk pm is borris and as far as i remember he was on board with trumpet and israel early 2019 starting a war with iran. but EU and rest of the world didn't supported it. lastly when there was and is a war in syria, iraq they fight for 10-15 years to be free then when your corrupt govt realize they cant beat them on land face to face your media call them terrorists so the govt can carpet bomb drone strike them indiscriminately. hence making the terrorist actual real life terrorists. if they aren't fighting back their whom or what do you think your govt is costing millions and billions every year. 😅😅

@@rihadalif Mass illegal migration is a problem. You seem to disagree, I am fine with that. I am not against real refugees, I personally know atleast two from Syria whom are both now studying to become doctors where I live. The issue is fakers. And the despicable way of how one the child drowned and then was used as a PR piece to somehow blame Europeans for it. I am not for any pointless war.

Guys, I think you just have to be reasonable : or course Benedict Cumberbatch won't host thousands or refugees, because that's simply not the point ! The point is, we should all give even a little bit of consideration to people ( because those are actual people, actual human beings suffering like we all do) who are actually dying on our doorsteps ! Whoever they are (age, sex...), who are WE to judge if they have the right to seek help in our country? I don't know if you realise the kind of situation those people are in ?! And I'm not even talking about economic refugees here (although they don't deserve rejection either), only about people who didn't have the damn CHOICE to leave everything behind. We're not talking about such things as religion or politics yet, we're talking about PEOPLE, who don't even know if they will live through the next day. I'm sorry, but I think we're all being so blinded by such questions as work, comfort or personal security, that we forget the real matter: thousands of human lives are in danger right now. So if I you're on a boat in the middle of the sea and you see another boat sinking right in front of you, will you let another man drown just because you don't know his name or because you don't want to share your own space ? Come on, that's just nonsense. So if you want to think about it once again do it, but do it quickly, because by the time you're over, the poor bloke is already six feet under.

yeah not a bother when you live in hamstead heath or somewhere similar and go to restaurants that charge 300 pounds for a meal. go live in Luton mate, or germany or sweeden for that matter. send your 16 year old daughter out on the streets and tell her she has nothing to fear from these war torn people and see what you say then. its not the millionaires that live with these people its the ordinary folk and ben is not one of them.

People don’t like hearing the truth. Benedict wasn’t a hypocrite. He donated and worked hard for this cause. He even hosted refugees from Ukraine in his own home in London. He is someone who practices what he preaches. He helps students who financially struggle to continue their education. He literally left the comfort of his cab running to save a delivery man from 4 muggers not caring about risking his life but just wanting to save the man. He’s true. He’s a great human being. He’s not perfect but he works very hard and is very true to ideals.

Same year Dr. Mario Molina wrote his paper on "the Green-House Effect", 1978. Last night I could actually watched this film now that the "X Men Apocalypse" stopped eclipsing all the other movies due to their premiere during the past weekend and let me tell you although quite British indeed in its portrayal yet High-Rise's universal view on human condition is even more relevant nowadays and as MR Hiddleston commented in another vid made on his talks and presentations[ yeah everything is now recorded by any possible gadget there is] Ballard's prophetic views and this film based upon it btw it took only 40 years to his producer Jeremy Thomas to complete its realization: "the metaphor is for us to decide" just as Orwell's and Huxley's. Please watch this film if you're interested in thinking afterwards. Many thanks for publishing 25 05 2016

Good thing he got into acting because he never would've made his millions working anywhere that requires brains. One needs only to look at the history of the world all over to know how it will end for the UK and Europe by accepting all refugees. The quality of life for today's Europeans is going to take a nose dive, but the elite like Cumberbatch will always have places around the world to run to when things go south.

Only a small proportion of these so-called refugees are fleeing Syria. The majority are from all over the muslim world and are able-bodied young men who know damn well that the PC brigade will take them at face value if they simply claim to be Syrian. Of course, they have no documents so the gullible PC brigadiers will smugly keep pumping the myth that they are all fleeing war and persecution. Funny how little to no effort has been made to help the Christian and Yasidi people in the Middle East, who really are being persecuted. Also, why has no one asked the question: "Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, how many migrants have YOU taken in?' I can tell you how many; a big fat zero, but this is never mentioned by the PC press. Oh no, it's all Europe's fault and responsibility. Of course the UK can provide housing and jobs for millions fleeing shitty regimes, because this is a huge island and we have no homelessness, no families living on the breadline and we got absolutely tons of spare housing! Oh and in addition to that we got absolutely loads of money and resources in the education and health sectors! Cumberbatch is an idiot or is he getting a financial back-hander from those rich Arab countries that don't want to deal with this 'problem'?

They're not weak Syrian women and children, they're fit, fully grown men. A great many of them haven't even come from Syria. Secondly, regardless of whether or not these are actual refugees, there's an absolute certainty that a great many of them are ISIS sympathisers or prospective jihadis. The Paris attacks were found to be Syrian ISIS supporters.
