Don't want to toot my horn (haha get it?) but my band director said that we could play this piece even tho were are his second year interemediate players, not even our honor and advanced band who were our 3rd and 4th year could play it.

I’m in high school and I want to learn this piece but I’ve never played four mallet before should I start with easier songs first or just go for it
@sheldenberry5052 ай бұрын
Build up some chops for inner mallet runs and try to work up individual mallet control. Beyond that this piece has alot of wide grip chords at the low end of a 5 octave marimba so work on that as well. Outside of technique the rest of the complexities are mainly rhythmic. Its a great piece to play, it may take some working up to but you can do it!
@joeyjojojoey4095Ай бұрын
the later parts of this piece are incredibly difficult, I would recommend developing your technique significantly before trying to learn the piece, at least in its entirety. Some of the earlier sections might be fun to look at though.

All I'm going to say is...WOW!! Gary P. Gilroy has always been an early favorite marching band composer for my hometown's marching band, but I haven't heard too much of Mr. Gilroy's concert music. I just listened to the official audio for this piece, and then I stumbled across this video, let alone it being the world premiere! Dr. deAlbuquerque may be one of the greatest female conductors I have ever seen! This ensemble went over the top with the performance, so a huge bravo to this whole ensemble and Dr. deAlbuquerque for premiering it!!! Oh, and I can't forget the massive applause at the end! :)
