Fun fact: that circular round structure made of wood in the background is how tenement buildings in New York collected rainwater to supply their buildings with potable tapwater. Lots of stories about pigeons and raccoons floating around in there… True.

Collected? There’s still a cistern in most buildings here in the city. I have a rooftop deck in my building and you will see a metal casing to one side. Behind it is the cistern.

I love how in the original it is Mel Brooks who says the line "Don't be stupid, be a smarty. Come and join the Nazi Party", but in his remake they had a younger person on screen but it was still his voice. Mel Brooks is legendary.
