They applied makeup to give him the white blaze!! The jockey club and the racing fraternity tried to advise the production team making this programme, but they took no notice!! They portray the owners and trainers as over privileged snobs, just pansying to the public's perception of people like that!! The actors clearly know Jack shit about horses or racing and it shows!!

Really appreciate you giving me the chance to watch this series. I'm involved in Racing and thoroughly enjoyed this. Can remember watching as a young man in the 90s with my late family. Came here after hearing Colin Blumenau on The Bill podcast. As well as playing Francis 'Taffy' Edwards on The Bill, Colin was one of the original writers for Trainer, having grown up around racing. He talks about how Trainer was originally a gritty drama set in the North, but the producers kept calling them back and demanding rewrites until it was a softer, southern Howard's Way like soap. Then when it failed, the producers blamed the writers who waved goodbye to their writing careers.

The actor who plays Ben (kevin sargent)was a well known child actor. I think he appeared in coronation street as a young hooligan terrorizing ken barlow. Also he was in the film version of All creatures great and small(or its sequel "It shouldn't happen to a vet") I know this cos I've watched both those films in the last week. I'm sure he was in another 70's series set in 1930's or similar. Don't recall him in anything as an adult though, I don't know if he died tragically young. He certainly was a talented young actor.
