What I’ve learned so far is that you’re paying for your time. Don’t be afraid to ask any question. I was start with “stupid question” or “forgive me for being ignorant on the matter but…” the majority of instructors I’ve encountered love what they do and they are more than willing to explain things in different ways in order for the student to understand.

New to your channel and just hit Subscribe! Really enjoyed the content and pacing of the video. I'm 52, started flying 5 years ago with ASEL CPL/instrument, and have my multi-engine commercial training in a couple of weeks. I have my CFI writtens out of the way so after ME, I'm looking to get my CFI and see where it goes from there. Dream is to be a part 91 corporate pilot, if the opportunity presents itself. I have an engineering day job which I still enjoy and has blessed me with compensation that's hard to let go at the moment, but my youngest will be done with college in 3 years so things should get a bit more flexible. My wife is a homemaker and has supported my flying goals 100%! Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Always appreciate any input to my aviation journey!

What is your schedule like with the airlines?
@Flysh24
@Flysh24 4 күн бұрын
@@pilotkaity I work at brown so the schedules are probably our weakest link if I’m honest. But there are still good deals to be had. I do mostly international crossings at the moment, so it’s typically maybe 3-4 trips a month where I’ll fly over to Europe and back a few times. Can also do 2 week trips in Europe and get 2+ weeks off afterwards. There’s week on week off as well, and turn lines domestically if you want to be home every night (and live in base). Lots of flexibility once you get some seniority!

I think one of the biggest differences is, in the past, a CFI wage was livable. For many, making $20/hour pre-tax BILLABLE and working your ass off while having to make a crippling loan payment is excruciating. I don’t even have to make a loan payment, I’m just now passing 1000 hours and for me the light at the end of the tunnel has been the 1500 hours. Without a loan payment I still would barely be able to live on my own and am only surviving because I have reduced rent living with my parents. To get to 1500 hours and realize the light at the end of the tunnel was just an illusion is just a kick in the balls. To suddenly realize you have to work 12 hour days doing steep turns and turns around a point for another 1000 hours while not even being able to afford basic rent is a far stretch from the dream these schools tricked people into crippling debt with their videos of models in a pilot shirt and promises of airline jobs. So no, back in your day the cost of living wasn’t making your life hell and 3000 hours wouldn’t make you hate the thing you first loved. The issue here lies more with the greedy company’s selling a “fast track” for $400/hr of flight time and meanwhile paying their CFIs $20/hr, this is beyond greed it’s evil. This model can only work when you can actually get hired at 1500, the CFI lifestyle is otherwise hellish at best and bankruptcy at worst. For many who fell into this trap, the world is on fire for them and any ideas of advancing their life or having a family is pushed back for years.
