And it is written that it will happen again, that all the kingdoms of Logres, which once was the land of ogres, will be destroyed by that lance. The ogres in this rhyme may refer to the ogres who were, in the pseudohistorical work History of the Kings of Britain by Geoffrey of Monmouth, the inhabitants of Britain before human settlement. Also, in the word Kyuketsuki (the Japanese Vampire) Demon and Ogre have the same translation Kyuketsuki refers to a type of vampire. Upiors were Vengeful Spirits that possessed corpses usually the corpses of loved ones that would then puppet the bodies to enact revenge across the living to sustain themselves they had to consume blood and steal life force in the process Strigoi were Poltergeists that could pilot corpses and had several powers including the ability to transform into animals or mist when Eastern European Folklore began being documented in the 17th century it gave the appearance of a new word 'Vampir" which then became "Vampyre" in 1732 John Polidori's short story "The Vampyre" in 1819 truly was the first inflection point for these creatures transforming them from demons and ghouls to suave charismatic aristocrats with a thirst for blood which was inspired by Vlad Dracula the III Tepes many years later that became more mainstream when Bram Stoker released "Dracula". Cruel, monstrous, ugly, brutish, man-eating giant is how ogres are described so that could mean any giant that fits that description or any demon could go in the Ogre category.

who brought shai hulud to arakis and why?
@Ancient_Library
@Ancient_Library 3 ай бұрын
There is no definitive answer to this question. Throughout the book series, there are scattered mentions of the Shai-Hulud appearance on this planet. Frank Herbert was a master of leaving questions unanswered, and this is a good example of such a question. There are several fan theories about how and where the sandworms in the Dune universe originated: They were brought to Arrakis by aliens, but this theory is unlikely since the author of this fictional world doesn't mention other intelligent life forms besides humans. A group of people might have transplanted sand trout from another world to Arrakis in the past, and over time, this life form, influenced by life on this planet, transformed into Shai-Hulud. There is also a theory that these creatures were created by AI, either to destroy the human race or to improve it. And the most straightforward theory is that this life form appeared on Arrakis and evolved to such an extent that it turned the entire planet into its natural habitat. And the references that have arisen are just theories.

I think the water only kills the worm by drowning it, not by poisoning the worm.
@Ancient_Library
@Ancient_Library 4 ай бұрын
No, Curious Soul, you are wrong. Here's one example where the poison effect of water on these creatures is mentioned. In first book of series. Dune, part Three - THE PROPHET pg 914 "This "water-stealer" died by the millions in each spice-blow. A five-degree change in temperature could kill it. The few survivors entered a semidormant cyst-hibernation to emerge in six years as small (about three meters long) sandworms. Of these, only a few avoided their larger brothers and pre-spice water pockets to emerge into maturity as the giant shai-hulud. (Water is poisonous to shai-hulud as the Fremen had long known from drowning the rare "stunted worm" of the Minor Erg to produce the awareness-spectrum narcotic they call Water of Life. The "stunted worm" is a primitive form of shai-hulud that reaches a length of only about nine meters.)"

@Ancient_Library
@Ancient_Library 4 ай бұрын
These mentions of such settlements were described in the penultimate book of the series, Heretics of Dune. As for the question of where the large amount of water on Arrakis came from, there are several answers. But to me, the most straightforward one is this: if you have unlimited resources and control the most valuable resource in the universe, you can even turn a desert into an ocean. And thank you for the remark, I'll correct it in the next video.

In this case, everything was shown correctly, if you're referring to Tolkien's scene with the trolls. The thing is, trolls in mythology have a completely different appearance than how Tolkien portrayed them in his works. I remember reading in a ghost story book which had all sorts of stories from around the world, the story was French Canadian, I forget the name of the creature specifically, but it kept on riding a farmer's horse wearing it out. The farmer simply got the goblin into a card game while eating potato pie, the farmer claimed his friend was coming and so he got out a mirror claiming it was his friend's picture, he showed it to the goblin who was horrified by the image and never returned again to bother the horse or the farmer.
