In 1968 this song was in the top of the chart for six months. The Beatles were envious 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

That break at 4:50 never fails to bring me out of my chair. This is one of the truly great popular songs of recorded times done by the genus of Richard Harris.

They failed to understand that the success of Linux was due to it's GPL licensing which made community development possible while no one company could claim all the hard work for themselves. They actually tried to be more like Apple - a proprietary system that runs on their proprietary platform (BeBox).

The music in this song is awesome, but the lyrics are at once pretentious and just plain cringeworthy.

I guess in some relationships you can't have your cake and eat it too no matter how long it took to bake it. Just don't leave your love out in the rain.

Those who don't "get" the metaphoric poetry of this great composition are just too literal, unimaginative, or stupid to "get" it. They wouldn't "get" Dylan, Bob or Thomas, the Beatles, or Steppenwolf's Monster. Altruism aside, some people are just so dumb it's a wonder they found their way through the birth canal.

There are various categories of music, besides the common categorization titles of Rock,Hard Rock,Heavy Metal,Pop,Punk,Disco, Psychedelic, Country, Rap, Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, Balads, Standards&Singers(Sinatra and Crosby stuff), etc, etc. With that said, this particular song would be in the "Passionately Romantic/Deep Emotion" category. Basically a sub-division of "Romantic Balads". Another noteworthy song within this particular category would be "How can I be sure",by "The Young Rascals". "If you could read my mind", by "Gordon Lightfoot" is another one, within this particular music categorization.

To me this song has really stood the test of time. When I first heard this song in 1968 at the age of 17, I was on summer vacation in San Antonio with my parents. I thought the song was absolutely amazing. I knew that Richard Harris was an actor, but was very surprised to hear him sing, and indeed, to sing this so well. I still think this song is beautiful, and that Harris had the best rendition. Jimmy Webb wrote an amazing song. It amazes me that some people think this is the worst song ever written/recorded! It is an amazing, beautiful work of art.

I listened to this song for the first time in the past few days. What an epic song. I can hear elements of this song, which was the original long song of this style, in other songs like "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Freebird", "Stairway to Heaven", "November Rain", etc. "MacArthur Park" is like 4 songs combined into one. All those other famous long singles have a similar 3 or 4 songs combined format. Fascinating stuff.
