Im surprised they let you do this. Seems too fun to be legal in the US.

These structures are covered with molly miller blennys. I've also spotted a tessellated blenny here as well.

@@FishyTomato- I collected them for tanks at an environmental center. Each tank represented a different habit.

Nice collecting. Where can I find a net like that?

Those nets are homemade. They both are old butterfly catching nets. I cut the wooden handle shorter and sewed on the two different nets on the aluminum frame with braided fishing line. One net was made from an old 1/4" cast net. (I wish it was 1/8" but I used what I had.) The second is a paint straining bag that fits over a 5 gallon bucket. It works well for small creatures. It isn't that good for catching the fast fish. Thanks for watching.

Collecting fish is a ton of fun. Every fish has a story. Bermuda will have a lot of great reef fish for your tank!

I collect fish in a nearby beach for my aquarium which is in a rural area during low tide since it’s when the small fish are in pools and hiding under rocks and its easy to get to and I even can catch large damsels, puffers, and even moray eels. They look just like the ones in the store but the difference is that I didnt have to pay anything for them and I get a work out. Just today at this time, I was able to net a whole school of cardinal fish which is like so perfect! Although I still do buy fancier fish like tangs, angels, butterflies, and other pretty deeper water fish I don’t usually catch.

I just now saw this- really cool. I did have a question about swimming with sharks. If I was seeing it right, when you swam with them, a partner had a speared flounder. Aren't you concerned that a shark will come up and take a bite of this distressed fish?

Concerned is a good word, I think I will always have a healthy level of concern when I see sharks. I haven't dove frequently enough with sharks to really have a good feel for their behavior. These sharks, however, showed curiosity but not aggression. Even thought they may have seen and smelled the flounder, it was pretty still. The predatory response in sharks typically comes when the fish is first speared and is struggling. They did swim away from us as we swam around the bridge rubble but they circled back around as we started to ascend. They are amazing creatures to watch.

The fisherman that it belonged to said that when they went to put the trolling motor down in the water the mounting hardware failed and it sunk to the bottom. We were able to retrieve it for them.
