If you grew up with an alcoholic abusive father, you grew up with violence and you struggle with anger issues, Jake isn’t something to look up to - he’s a terrifying, sobering wake up call.

absolute Rock Star. Jake the Muss was my actor in this movie. even when’s he’s angry, it’s funny as shit. thank you Jake the Muss, for this movie. I recognized you in Aqua Man also, but Once were Warriors is the flagship.

he mangaged to get the part out that he think it is wrong hitting women, and i gotta agree with him, punching someone that much weaker then you is wrong but women must stop pushing mens buttons..

The problem is the environment and the fact politicians make rules without consequences, not understanding where these rules may led us all. Is society to blame? Sure, but the political side needs to be dealt with first and the structure for solving these problems, needs to be implemented. At the moment we have a failed system that cares nothing for the population and more about the wealth generation, leaving a trail of destruction behind it. This has to change, else we are just going around in circles, like we still are for the past one hundred plus years.

The only movie that impacted me. I grew up in domestic violence and this was looking into a mirror. Tough tough film. Respect to this man for shining a light in “Jake”.

When I watched the movie and what happened to Beth and of course Grace. I sobbed. I still tear up thinking about it and what too many women and children live with . You are a true star in many ways Tem God Bless you and all those people who need help.

the worst part about it in nz is people glorify jake the muss. men acting like they want that fear and intimidation.

Once were warriors remains the best movie to come out of NZ . Its raw and its in your face . Its not a true story but the events in the movie are true and happen all over the world . I was a kid in similar family abuse . A very powerful movie that talks the truth about domestic violence
@honeyboysmith658710 ай бұрын
His such a great actor . He started out on Shortland street and then hit greater heights with this 1994 classic . I dont love him for the violence in this film . I love how he can pull it off as his the complete opposite in real life . Thats the reason his such a great actor.

Hell of a guy! When I first left home, me and 2 mates rented a house in Auckland through a real estate agent. After 6 months, we were told the owner would be coming to do an inspection. Guess who!? We had a drumkit in the garage and Temuera sat down and had a jam! He was so friendly! Was surreal!

I was expecting some of that extreme Jake The Muss intensity and violence in Book of Boba but Disney, in all their groomer wisdom, completely neutered the character.

When I watched "Once Were Warriors" for the first time I was 29 years old. It was eye opening. Jake was like my father. My father beat my mom he beat me he beat his own siblings. He was drunk all the time. Everyone feared him. It reminded me of a past I tried to forget. Everyone but one person feared him. The only person who could tame my father was my 300+ pound Samoan grandmother. When she walked into the room he became a quiet little man.

I was in a situation like that when I was a young woman ,,,it almost cost me my life , the cops had to get me out of that ,, and send me to hide somewhere far away ,,, I still remember that nightmare ,I'm 73 yrs old now ,, and that happened when I was in my twenties, ,,, even to this day I dream what would happen if I should ever meet him again ,He was Indian of the Native tribe , , and I tremble just thinking about it ,,, just because we are women , doesn't mean we are punching bags ,, as the saying goes ,, to the men ,, if women push your buttons ,,, just walk away ,, you don't have to have a match with her ,, she's weaker ,, and your stronger ,,, please just walk away ,, it's not a fair match and you should know it ,

God Bless you Temuera, this is so true. Domestic violence is incredibly scary... My cousin lost her life to domestic violence over 10 years ago... Much love to everyone going through this or who have family/friends going through this. Know that you don't have to stay with the person who is abusing you. Heck you'd probably have a better chance at life escaping than staying in that environment. There are people out there willing to help and shelters, I reckon churches would be good too. Much love, God bless :)

Think maybe I needed to hear this. There's a new girl at my job and I suspect that her boyfriend doesn't treat her good. I almost think that he hits her. But I can't prove it. And I don't know what to do to help her. She has a child I know that for sure. But I don't know what to say or do to help her? And it's really heartbreaking because she is the sweetest girl there.

Try asking your HR department on the down low. They often have access to resources for women caught in these situations
