Are there Harkin electric winches the can electronically be made to release the tension on a sheet such as when a yatch is tacking. After watching some sailing chanels it seems that winches have to be organised in pairs one on port and another on starboard. When the yatch tacks the winches one side have to winch in their sheet while the winch on the other side have to release their sheets. So does Harkin have winches that can release tension at the press of a button? Can Harkin winches also electronically measure how much sheet has been wound in or released? What are recommended electronic strain guages to fit to the sheets and stayes to measure the stresses on the rigging. Thanks Philip

I learned how to sail as an adolescent on the (2) DN's I helped my Dad build in NE Ohio in the Late 60's. In the 90's, my Dad helped me build my F-9A (31' trimaran) on the west coast. I've had that to 23 kts, which is pretty fast for liquid water. Lots of Harken gear on that. Sailing fast is fun.

Can you explain why in the current yachts the power developed is only just sufficient. What would be the downside of engineering a system that developed a little more available power ?

What happens if you lose the main sheet into the under-deck tube? will you have a pre-run leader to re-run it? Is that rudder a higher aspect ratio than stock? Seems cool! I'm curious how it'll do at low speed/up wind... I wonder if it'll give you the steerage you want. That could be an awesome shape when at speed down wind!

J125 is an awesome boat, one of my fastest sails on a mono-hull was on a J125 on a screaming reach with the A3. I'd like to see more on this boat, there's not that many built.

It’s always a fine line to walk when improving sailing efficiency but trying to maintain aesthetic considerations. Without knowing more I would question how all the deck penetrations will affect the boat’s longevity. Seems like lots of entry points for fresh water but perhaps your covers take care of all that. Great video.

What are you talking about? Product has been on market forever (which actually PROVES it works), and it works for exactly the reasons stated. I am engineer myself, mechanical being one of those degrees, and I vouch for him. He is exactly correct. Do the public a favor, and think before you even speak or write. Better yet stop hassling or please leave others alone that are educating their buyers. Your comment sounds like you're a disgruntled competitor!

2.5 MM Punch would be ideal. as the pin is 1/8", an eighth inch Punch gets stuck. I also found if handy to use a 1/16" Pin to use as a guide for re-inserting the roll pin, as they are a little large and seem to remove a little of the plastic. The knob is a terrible design, seems to be designed to fail. The little 1/8" nub that goes into the hole in the spring will snap off sooner than later. I saved my knobs, and drilled a 5/32" hole where it was sheared off, and pushed a 5/32" X 5/8" pin up into the plastic, I think that should hold up better.

Nice. Just ordered one. I appreciate the chill and informative video. I know it’d be cooler and slightly more informative to show it in action on a boat, but I know the reality is that’s 10x the effort… so factory explainer vid works great!

I have first-generation track for the foresail on my boat. Is my only option to get the new captive-bearing system and install as you show at 4:00, or do Harken still produce non-captive bearings cars for the old track?

Not relevant as instructions for the MODEL 7800. Did you forget that? Oh, and the unsecured propane cylinder on the VERY EDGE of a wobbly 1/2" sheet of plywood is both stupid and dangerous.
