Great video, James! Love how this one shares a lot of the fine details my O gauge version has. Bachmann did very well on it!

Firstly, thanks for watching and for your comment. :)I would say they are at risk now, with TT120 going to take a few years to establish (if it does) and pushing releases back in favour of slightly tweaked already overproduced models... it's a precarious time. - James

Hi, very honest opinion on Hornby’s let down of an announcement last week, I’m not a fan of Railroad products because they are overpriced ex Lima products from the 80’s & 90’s, I’m not a Hornby fan as such but I do like the look of the hush hush in grey livery, I did buy a rebuilt hush hush a few years ago from Kernow’s which was at a seriously great price I couldn’t resist, by adding a steam generator is good but a firebox glow would be a step in the right direction and the facility to fit other sound decoders would probably tempt me into maybe getting one, I’m not interested in the HM7000 system in anyway so it’s a no from me, thanks for sharing.

@stormmyStormmy Firstly thanks for watching. I tend to agree with you, albeit that there are "upgraded" versions of some older tooling GWR Locos there (the 4-4-0 County, 4-6-0 County, Dean Single and Hall specifically) but else you are right, it's a dumping ground for older tooling they don't want to update. As for the HushHush, this is exactly the point it shouldn't have been done, some have a few already and it's still missing features. Nevermind, maybe they will learn. Keep your eyes peeled for HM7000 on my channel soon, I don't think I will convert everything, and I will explain why later, but I am intrigued. Many thanks for your comment- James

@@thelittlewesternmodelrailway Hi, I’m not knocking their system I just want to support a better established system that gives you so much more than what the HM7000 offers, Hornby should concentrate on making very good products like they did when they were market leaders, I guess that will be a tall order because they don’t seem to put the work in and cut too many corners to save cost at the customers expense, they could make their smoke/vapour system universally controlled but they want it on their platform only, I’d rather not have the system because of that reason, I’m sure their system will become an item you can fit to your trains in years to come as the technology improves.

I agree - The Hush Hush I would not buy - but a Merchant Navy or similar Light Pacific (rebuilt or not) with a steam generator would certainly interest me. Though it would presumably still be a bit expensive!

The Railroad HST tooling is ex-Lima tooling and isn't as old as 1976, that was the original Hornby HST tooling which is no longer used. Stands up well in terms of moulding, but the lighting functionality is poor, only on the motor car, there is literally nothing in the dummy car.

@@thelittlewesternmodelrailway Hornby don’t really have a lot to offer these days other than a few good looking steam trains, diesel wise they are years behind other manufacturers and their wagons are not even worth talking about, the only things they produce that interest me are their coaches when they end up in mega sales, their all round lack of investment in 00 gauge is very sad because all their focus is in the TT gauge range where there is a great deal of competition at the moment.

James, this was great review, I like these affordable and approachable sets, I do think the bigger manufacturers ought to focus on more diesel sets in this regard. Kids these days want to play with the stuff they see in the real world, steam is great, but diesels really are more appealing to that kind of audience. Great vid, good editing, looking forward to the next!

what is the difference between this booster and the dcc EX motorshield?
@thelittlewesternmodelrailway
@thelittlewesternmodelrailway 10 ай бұрын
Hi, sorry for the late reply! This booster is an older setup, also from one of the members of the DCC-EX community. Essentially it's the same thing powered by a different wallwort feed and allows each section to be completely isolated. I am also looking into the new DCC-EX 5A motorshield, but initially this was going to allow me to fully section off the layout when I start adding to it. I will do a dedicated video to the motorshields and DCC-EX in the new year, once I have trains moving around! James - LWR

Once I've gotten to a good place with this layout, I will begin to explain in stages how I go about prepping for a layout build. The good thing is I have been able to use actual trackplans and data to get the turnouts roughly the right size and placement and then simply "fill in the blanks" as it were, but more on that later :) Cheers
